Here's the story: Last friday I went to Berlin to see R.E.M. Support Act was Feeder (which I heard for the first time and they where very good). After Feeder finished and they prepared the stage for R.E.M. guess what they played in the meantime? Yessss, the Dels!!! Almost the whole "Waking hours" album in front of something like 20.000 thousand people. When I heard "kiss this thing gooddbye" a big grin came over my face (as you can imagine). Maybe the Dels community got a little bigger that night. Then came an absolutely brilliant R.E.M. Gig. Michael and the band where in perfect shape and they rocked Berlin for about 2 hours. They played a lot of songs from their early 80's albums, even "Maps and legends". Last song was "It's the end of the world" (well, a little too predictable, but a real climax;-). Did I say last song? When they turned on the lights they played "Waking hours" all over again ;-))) What a night! (please excuse wrong words or phrases - I'm normally just a reader) Cheers, Andreas ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 13:42:23 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Chris=20Quartly?= Subject: Re: OV: unexpected Dels Performance in Berlin I saw REM in Brixton a couple of weeks back and they also had Waking Hours on (they played the whole album) through the PA before Pete Yorn played. So maybe REM are fan?! It was a great gig anyway :o) Cheers Chris --- Andreas Hille wrote: > ...well not really but it made me smile. > Here's the story: Last friday I went to Berlin to > see R.E.M. Dear Mr. Currie never ceases to amaze me with his references, that innate sense of pop sensibility, and his sheer originality. Thank Hilary! You phrased everything perfectly as far as I know. It sounds like you had a wonderful night! I'm jealous. ;-) Tsch(9&B, debbie - --- Andreas Hille wrote: > ...well not really but it made me smile. > Here's the story: Last friday I went to Berlin to > see R.E.M. Lyrically, it's a comical tale in the vein of something like Drunk In A Band. Kudos for finding so many music names to rhyme with O'Sullivan - but what about Van Morrison? Maybe he's mentioned in the extended dance mix. Can't wait to hear more from The Uncle Devil Show. ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V5 #96 *********************************
