Here's my "want list" of things that A&M have in the vaults that they should release: DVD of all the videos (including both KTTG's), the No Better Location live video, the "documentary part" of Let's Go Home, and all the inbetween bits from the Change Everything video collection. I'm sure that would all fit easily on one DVD. The original recording of Waking Hours that they shelved (Is the version of Stone Cold Sober from the b-side of Roll To Me from this version?). They could do the Waking Hours: Ultimate Edition with both versions plus all the b-sides! Is there a whole alternate version of Change Everything done with Don Smith somewhere out there as well (we did get 2 songs from those sessions released as b-sides...)? Rarities box-set of demos (the pre-WH demos would be very cool), EVERY b-side & bonus cut, the early years (including Sense Sickness), remixes, whatever is left in the vault, etc. Just to annoy Doug, they could call this album "Cry To Be Found In The Vaults" or "Just Before You Leave, There's More". ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 13:16:29 -0800 (PST) From: debbsc67 Subject: Re: OV: Not exactly what we wanted Sounds like a brilliant idea to me! There is the controversial issue of artist's rights versus the music companies "owning" the music. The only reason A&M can do this and make money is they somewhat own the songs. It seems likely that this album was done with zero input from the band, notice the lack of even the usual "remastered by someoneintheband". But at least they still have some support somewhere in the music industry. So anyway. Basically if it wasn't on A&M forget it. Also forget demos old versions etc. unless the band works with A&M to get it done. Notice that takes interest on both sides. On the other hand it CAN happen. For an amazing example I point once again to Wishbone Ash. Go to wishboneash.com -> merch -> CDs and check out the amazing catalog available. A bunch of these are old MCA releases never put out on CD that the band somehow convinced MCA to press on CD after they remixed them! There is tons of other stuff too. I have no idea of what it really takes to get all this done other than extensive grass roots support from the fans and heck the band calling themselves "Wishbone Ash" now has exactly one original member but still I am very impressed with what they've been able to do. So maybe Justin?! debbsc67 wrote:Sounds like a brilliant idea to me! How do we go about making this happen? Something terribly subversive, to "Drunk In A Band." Maybe featuring Record Exec Gnomes that scurry around inside their gear and snip wires and unplug crucial components while profiling all the audience members and targeting them for promos for swill like Spears and Nsink. I would happily lend gear and time to just such a project. ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V5 #22 *********************************
