Roe v. Wade ["The Densons" Subject: RE: OV: For US readers, only, 30th Anniv. Roe v. Wade What kind of list is this??? (That is a RHETORICAL question, I've been on this list for years and know the answer, so don't email me thinking you're helping me out) I didn't agree with the post below...twisting words around such as..."Their goal is to eventually have no abortions, that every child be a wanted child."but earlier in the paragraph it said " Kill Rock Stars will donate _100%_ of its online sales profits to organisations such as Planned Parenthood and other outfits that help support abortion rights". A slight contradiction in my eyes...enough about this crap just wanted to vent, as Josh posted....... "If you don't agree with the politics of this email, or if you do, sit down and have a good, safe discussion with someone about the topic of abortion rights." This was MY good, safe discussion. Keep you're money in your pocket and let the ROCK STARS fight their own fight! Oh...one last thing...the reason I really sent this post...how ironic...this groups name... "Kill Rock Stars". For every abortion, I wonder how many rock stars are lost? How many songs will never be heard? How many VH1 specials we won't have to sit through (well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad ;) Phil _____________________________________________________________________________ ____ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 21:27:56 -0500 From: "Josh Neas" Subject: OV: For US readers, only, 30th Anniv. Roe v. Wade Sorry for those of you who might read this twice on the Victim and Toadsback groups, and for you Non-US Readers on the Dels list, you can skip also. Wednesday 22nd January marks the 30th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in the U.S. Supreme Court. For people who believe in reproductive rights, the last few years has seen an assault on those protective laws unlike any since that landmark decision. As part of the celebration, Kill Rock Stars and its online store, BuyOlympia wants to help contribute to the defense. On Wednesday, 22nd January, Kill Rock Stars will donate _100%_ of its online sales profits to organisations such as Planned Parenthood and other outfits that help support abortion rights and parenthood options. I don't think anyone is actually pro-abortion, but what these organisations do is lend a hand through educational and economic means to give people options. Their goal is to eventually have no abortions, that every child be a wanted child. But we're still a long way off and helping these people out is a huge step in the process. So, even if you weren't planning on buying any KRS stuff, or have never heard of the bands before, head on over to http://www.killrockstars.com and check out the merchandise. Here's just a sampling of the bands you can look into: Sleater-Kinney Quasi Elliot Smith The Gossip All Girl Summer Fun Band Bangs Jello Biafra Bikini Kill Bonfire Madigan Bratmobile The Butchies Jim Carroll Exene Cervenka Chicks on Speed COCO Comet Gain Sarah Dougher Free Kitten Har Mar Superstar Heavens to Betsy Hot Snakes Calvin Johnson Le Tigre Lois Moffeo Mary Lou Lord The Pattern The Quails Sonic Youth Ronnie Spector Team Dresch Tender Trap Tracy and the Plastics Two Ton Boa Universal Order of Armageddon Unwound The White Stripes XBXRX Yeah Yeah Yeahs Thanks in advance if you do buy something, and thanks in advance for just thinking about things this Wednesday. If you don't agree with the politics of this email, or if you do, sit down and have a good, safe discussion with someone about the topic of abortion rights. We all have something to contribute and we all have valid points of view. Learning to hear them all is a step in itself. Take Care. josh. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 11:03:35 EST From: SngWrite1@aol.com Subject: OV: OT: Lloyd Cole success Well, I figured out how to get the Lloyd track to download. If you can't get it working, search in Google for the whole URL. It'll say it can't find it, but it'll give you a link to the file which you can right-click and save. It's a really good song. In my searching, I found that Dotmusic.com also has video of Lloyd doing solo acoustic versions of "Late Night Early Town" and "Four Flights Up". And if anyone has the Acoustic Cafe show #369 (Feb 02) let me know - there's a Lloyd interview and some performances (including "Late Night Early Town"). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 11:31:10 -0500 From: "Rachel Wifall" Subject: RE: OV: For US readers, only, 30th Anniv. How many VH1 specials >we >won't have to sit through (well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad ;) I think what needs to be pointed out here is that Planned Parenthood, for one, provides affordable medical care to women in the U.S. who are either impoverished or simply do not have health insurance (of which there are *many*). Whatever your opinion on abortion, education about birth control and help in protecting women's health is probably the most important function of such organizations, and they definitely need to be supported for these reasons. The name of Kill Rock Stars is definitely unfortunate in this case, but that's not what they're trying to do. >Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 21:27:56 -0500 >From: "Josh Neas" >Subject: OV: For US readers, only, 30th Anniv.
