Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 00:26:18 +1030 Just wondering people, Did the survey previously mentioned include expat Scots? There's a couple down here in Australia that are/were quite brilliant....Jimmy Barnes (Cold Chisel), Colin Hay (Men At Work), Bon Scott & the Young Brothers (AC/DC) probably the best and well known. Then there's John Paul Young (I know...'Love is In the Air'...yuch), Sheena Easton (cripes!) and David Byrne from Talking Heads who was born in Glasgow. As you can see, it's a pretty big can of worms to open! It still astounds me that the Dels were behind such musical jokes as Bay City Rollers and Wet Wet Wet. The other top tenners fair enough, but c'mon...... Never mind 'Donald where's ya troosers', Scotland where's ya taste? Roe v. Wade Sorry for those of you who might read this twice on the Victim and Toadsback groups, and for you Non-US Readers on the Dels list, you can skip also. Wednesday 22nd January marks the 30th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in the U.S. Supreme Court. For people who believe in reproductive rights, the last few years has seen an assault on those protective laws unlike any since that landmark decision. As part of the celebration, Kill Rock Stars and its online store, BuyOlympia wants to help contribute to the defense. On Wednesday, 22nd January, Kill Rock Stars will donate _100%_ of its online sales profits to organisations such as Planned Parenthood and other outfits that help support abortion rights and parenthood options. I don't think anyone is actually pro-abortion, but what these organisations do is lend a hand through educational and economic means to give people options. Their goal is to eventually have no abortions, that every child be a wanted child. But we're still a long way off and helping these people out is a huge step in the process. So, even if you weren't planning on buying any KRS stuff, or have never heard of the bands before, head on over to http://www.killrockstars.com and check out the merchandise. Here's just a sampling of the bands you can look into: Sleater-Kinney Quasi Elliot Smith The Gossip All Girl Summer Fun Band Bangs Jello Biafra Bikini Kill Bonfire Madigan Bratmobile The Butchies Jim Carroll Exene Cervenka Chicks on Speed COCO Comet Gain Sarah Dougher Free Kitten Har Mar Superstar Heavens to Betsy Hot Snakes Calvin Johnson Le Tigre Lois Moffeo Mary Lou Lord The Pattern The Quails Sonic Youth Ronnie Spector Team Dresch Tender Trap Tracy and the Plastics Two Ton Boa Universal Order of Armageddon Unwound The White Stripes XBXRX Yeah Yeah Yeahs Thanks in advance if you do buy something, and thanks in advance for just thinking about things this Wednesday. If you don't agree with the politics of this email, or if you do, sit down and have a good, safe discussion with someone about the topic of abortion rights. We all have something to contribute and we all have valid points of view. Learning to hear them all is a step in itself. Take Care. josh.
