The U.S. attorneys office will coordinate its activities with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which has been conducting an informal inquiry of the conglomerate, the company said. The new investigations are most likely focusing on the same subject as the French probewhether the company issued misleading financial reports under former Chairman Jean-Marie Messier. He was ousted in July, shortly before a liquidity crisis at the company was revealed. Vivendi has been hit with shareholder lawsuits in France and the U.S., who say the company falsified financial reports to drive up the value of its stock. Its share price has fallen 80% this year. More than a lot of artists get. Dave will love this, from their homepage: "Vivendi Universal is a frontrunner in digital distribution of music, and is deeply involved in the fight to protect artists' rights." then ... "The Universal Music Publishing Group controls over 850,000 copyrights, including some of the world's most popular songs: I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Candle in the Wind, California Girls, I Will Survive, and Strangers in the Night." ===== - -Doug .
