Vanessa Carlton, never one to mince words said something along the lines of, "it's been great to have so many people get to be exposed to my music and have everyone be so accepting because believe me I am going to do it my way or no way and if they didn't like it I'd be happily playing little clubs somewhere." It didn't help that last night I was with a couple of marvelous photographers at a late-night album release party for a new singer... live music is like a shot in the arm sometimes. And all it takes is the sight of the stage lights and I start remembering the Roxy & Iain's boots..... I love you, Alison! I've never heard Henley, et al whine about their own fate. They're fighting the good fight for those talented souls who are routinely used and discarded and ignored by the industry. >who are the people really looking for the one "killer >cut"* as old people like Ed call it, the labels, the >artists or BOTH?! More importantly, where will they be and what will be their point of veiw in ten years? Regardless of their merit, I wouldn't expect too much to change. Given the opportunity, people will take advantage of others. It is to be expected as much as those who will try hold their feet to the fire and make 'em play fair. I believe that was "last call," wasn't it? Ed ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V4 #272 **********************************
