I know I know, I'm a groupie. I've taken notes from a few suggestions though...I'm trying to break out of my del amitri/the police/carly simon mode (no carly on the list this time at least). nobody's perfect... leah The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes, The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening, Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains, Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys, Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap, And seeing that it was a soft October night, Curled once about the house, and fell asleep. --The Love Song of J. Just the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF THEM THAT KEEP BUYING CRAP therefore perpetuating the tyranny. As for Rachel's post below, supermodels are used to sell lingerie and makeup to women how is what you say any different? I'd guess that 90% or more of Britney's, Christina's and Mariah's fans are women. In fact name any crappy pre-manufactured lip synching pop band and I'll bet that most of their fans will be females too. And Sting. I don't really have a problem with him and hey I actually bought Synchronicity and liked it back in the Vinyl Age. I'm just baffled by his success with that awful nasaly voice and completely mystified that anyone could see him as sexy. Oh and those Del guys. No matter what you people are posting here it seems to me that most of the female Del fans that I've known have or have had a crush on one of the band members. And that does sell CDs. - --- Rachel Wifall wrote: > >Geez quit blaming the music industry for the sorry > >state of the biz when the real problem is ... yes > >females. Who buys N'Synch, Backstreet Boys, Britney, S >Club, Spice Girls and all the other radio pop fluff? >It isn't the guys. No, but bad pop is not the only nuisance music around right now. Rap and R&B used to mean something - it was a political and cultural statement - but now it is little more than a string of identikit artists like JaRule, So Solid Crew, Irv Gotti etc whose lyrics are just "look at how much money/expensive clothes/bikini girls I have... I am so rich!". This is just commercial rubbish, just like boy bands crooning "Don't break my heart", and is bought by teenage boys. And don't forget the euro-pop dance pap like Trinity-X and Scooter - bought by idiots of both sexes! >Who judges bands entirely by the >attractiveness of the lead singer and other people in >the band? But this is a catch-22 situation. Someone mentioned Coldplay - I'm sorry but if Chris Martin wasn't famous and you passed him in the street, you'd think he was average looking. But now we know he's intelligent, artistic, funny, talented and articulate, and these are very sexy attributes. So it shouldn't be a surprise that many women think the male lead singers of their favourite bands are sexy - but it doesn't mean that that's why we chose them! BTW if the lead singer of a rock band is TOO good looking it can be a hindrance more than a help. On holiday in Canada and the US back in February I heard The Calling for the first time and fell in love with their music. It wasn't until May when I saw them live for the first time in a tiny club in Camden Lock in London that I got my first eyefull of lead singer Alex Band. Is he drop-dead gorgeous? Yes. Is that why I like them? Heck no, but now that's what everyone assumes which not only ticks me off, it also puts blokes off a group with that undeserved reputation.
