I am in the process of converting my entire CD collection (well, only the rock portion, not the jazz or classical) to MP3 in honor of having acquired my friend's used iPod because he had to have the new 20G version, so in the course of the last couple of weeks, more and more has been at my fingertips. The most recent full-album listenings have been (I'm in the middle of the Ts): Jane Siberry--Bound by the Beauty The Smithereens--11; Blow-Up; God Save the Smithereens Tears For Fears--Elemental Turin Brakes--The Optimist LP k.d. lang--Angel With a Lariat I'll add one other bit about the MP3s--which I was going to write last week already, but then I thought, "No, people will just think I'm being silly"--but due to the lack of other scintillating Del-talk I'll include it now (by no means implying that my comment will be scintillating either!). At the end of the day when I don't have enough time left to start listening to a whole album, I'll put all 3900+ songs on shuffle. Several times a Del Amitri song has played and I get the same stupid thrill I get at the grocery store when I hear them there (which I have, actually, a couple of times recently). Well, I just got back from the big city and picked up some good stuff. But what's been playing is: 1. Patty Griffin "1,000 Kisses" (She's opening for Billy Bragg in the UK and beyond... if you get a chance or are going to the show, she's good. Real good. It'll just be her solo, but I'm sure that'll be enough to make you understand.) 2. Wings Over America (Saw Sir Paul on Friday, had to pull all the live stuff I could!)(also playing all the other live Paul discs I have) 3. Liz Phair "Exile In Guyville" 4. Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" 5. Great title and great American heavy duty r&r with some nice subtle touches. Michelle Branch - "The Spirit Room". Ok busted, what can I say I think she writes nice catchy pop songs. Dashboard Confessional - "Places You Have Come To Fear The Most". Got to love a band that puts demos on their website. Great stuff and good to see an alternative acoustic band getting some recognition. Wishbone Ash - I am QUITE surprised at the following this band has 30 years later and it's so cool to be able to download live stuff and my favorite vinyl tracks from them. Tool - Stuff from all albums. Nice to hear since I'd never buy any of it, but interesting. Have to laugh when I'm listening to a good song, look up the name and it's called "Prison S*x".
