"Not Where It's At" was the first Dels song I ever heard (I'd heard 'Roll to Me' but didn't pay attention) and so SOSP was the first album I bought. To this day, it ranks as my either #1 or #2 favourite Dels record. I think the first 5 songs on it rank as the best series of songs on a Dels album ever. NWIA, SOSP, WMIB, WITSS, and Medicine are just killer. In fact..the lone song I absolutely can't stand? Yup. "High Times." :P Oh, it grates on me. I can't help it. Also, "Life Is Full" is amazing. There are plenty of times I put SOSP on just to listen to that song. josh. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Oct 2002 18:39:33 +0200 (added by From: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org Subject: [none] postmaster@mail.tiscali.be) From: Kristy McDonald Subject: Re: OV: CDs you're listening to Sender: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org Precedence: bulk > I'm surprised you didn't list Spirit of the West, what with you being Canadian > and all. I have yet to buy any of their CDs (they're on my wish list, though > :-), but when I think of great Canadian bands, they're the first one that > springs to mind....oh, and they're guitar oriented, so I must be old. LOL Hullo - were you reading my mind?? I love Sprit - I've seen them live 4 times, and they are jut the BEST - okay, 5th best, maybe 7th. But they are great. I have a few of their CD's, and they never disappoint. Stuff like "Save this house" and "Political" are my favourites, although "If Venice is Sinking" makes me belly laugh every time I hear it. Hell, the Pope thought he had a problem with Madonna! Needless to say, as a proud Canadian, eh?, I love Rush because they're Rush - let's face it, Geddy Lee is nothing to look at. I think SCTV is genius, and yes Virginia, I have gotten up close and personal with a moose. I AM Canadian! Well, maybe not totally. I don't drink beer. Kristy in Canada, eh? P.S. - I guess Debbie and I will meet soon in a retirement home. I listened to it almost non stop for the 5 hours and realized that it was pretty good. But it's still the album that I put in least... On a separate three hour road trip I was taking back to college, I listened to Life is Full on repeat for nearly 2 hours. High times, though I liked it better after the first road trip mentioned, I still skip, almost every time. lds On 1 Oct 2002, Josh Neas wrote: > *laugh* > > I feel really alone on this one. > > "Not Where It's At" was the first Dels song I ever heard (I'd heard 'Roll to > Me' but didn't pay attention) and so SOSP was the first album I bought. Love & Nirvana Love's lost at U Music Cash, Hole rights and Nirvana deal settle long-playing suit By JUSTIN OPPELAAR - Daily Variety NEW YORK -- Ending a bitter legal feud that many had hoped would change the course of the artists rights debate raging in the music biz, volatile rocker Courtney Love has split from her label Universal Music Group, taking with her a cash settlement said to be worth several million. Universal on Monday said it waived all rights to future Love recordings, with the rights to unreleased recordings from her group Hole reverting to the singer. The label group also will waive contract restrictions that would have kept Love from re-recording the tunes. As part of the deal, UMG gets permission to put out new packages of material from Nirvana, the grunge supergroup fronted by Love's late husband, Kurt Cobain. The new records, expected before the end of the year, will include a boxed set, a greatest-hits compilation disc and a rarities collection. Love's cash payout for the settlement is said to be structured as an advance against those releases. Separately, Love is said to have settled an ongoing court battle with Nirvana's surviving members, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, over rights to the group's recordings. In its announcement Monday, Universal said Novoselic and Grohl gave "separate permissions" for the forthcoming releases. Long in the works A final settlement with UMG had been in the works for months, but talks began to heat up over the past week (Daily Variety, Sept. 25). L.A. Superior Court Judge Fumiko Wasserman had pushed Love's court date back several times over the summer to allow the parties some breathing room to continue negotiations. The most recent scheduled date had been today. In 2001, Wasserman threw out 11 of Love's 15 claims against Universal, but later reversed herself and reinstated six of them, clearing the way for a full trial. "I'm excited to be releasing music again, and rock music is starting to become very fun," Love said in a statement. "I plan to continue my advocacy of artists in Sacramento and Washington, where this belongs." Monday's deal was a bit of an anticlimax for artists-rights advocates, for whom Love had become one of the most vociferous reps. Singer testified in the California Senate during hearings to discuss the industry's business practices, saying the onerous terms dictated by many record contracts amounted to "indentured servitude." Labels often are sued over contractual disputes, but virtually all the legal cases eventually are settled out of court. Going all the way Love's case had looked to be the exception: In June 2001, the singer told the Los Angeles Times she was "ready to take this thing all the way up to the Supreme Court." Artists' advocates were salivating at that prospect, in hopes that a full court case finally would force details of the label's contract terms and accounting practices into the public eye. Another closely watched court case, in which the Dixie Chicks were battling label Sony Music, also was settled this summer in a deal that gave the Chicks their own joint-venture label, Open Wide Records. The group's first record on the new imprint, "Home," has sold more than 1.5 million copies in its first four weeks of release. According to Universal, Love is working on a new album, with the first single to be released in the U.K. by Poptones Records. UMG said it will get a royalty override on some of the singer's upcoming recordings, giving the major label group a piece of Love's future earnings. Barry Capello, Love's lawyer in the suit, declined to comment on the case. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Oct 2002 16:46:52 -0700 From: "Carol Huff" Subject: OV: Re: Re: oppositeview-digest V4 #247 Actually, you're not alone when it comes to the songs you like on the album. Hi together, tonight I dreamt of Del Amitri, and so I wondered: Did anyone else dream of the Dels sometimes? If yes, what was the dream about? Tonight I dreamt that I surfed the net and found a "new" rare disc with a lot of recordings on it that had never been released. I only remember one song that was on the disc (there were 5 on it), it was called "The stand-up girl". And I baught this disc and was so happy that I got some new songs no one knew about til now. :-) The other dream I had a while ago. I dreamt that the Dels toured germany and wanted to play a gig here in Augsburg, so I drove to the airport in munich, where they arrived, and braught them home to me, where they slept. I chatted some time with Justin (who was, in this dream, an old friend of mine), then he mentioned he had to get his beauty-sleep before his tomorrow gig, and went to sleep. The others already slept. :-) So, now tell me of your dreams!! yours, Dirk ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V4 #248 **********************************
