If you ever receive a forwarded email about viruses, warnings, or anything of that nature, go to www.snopes.com to check it out first. They have a vast resource of urban legends, email hoaxes and many other related items. That way, you can give yourself piece of mind and save yourself, and others, the time and energy that doesn't need to be wasted due to someone else's "bright" idea. :) David ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 07:11:48 -0500 From: "S Meyer" Subject: OV: Re: Re: OT: Hard Day's Night I probably saw it at least 20 times way back then! Now they don't let you stay in the theatre (i.e. cinema) to see it again once the movie ends, but you could back in the 60's. I remember sitting there all day (and probably into the evening). Jane is right, haven't been the same since. ;-) > PS That's another thing you Americans have a different name for. You say > theatre, we say cinema. All the trailers at the cinema for American films > say "Coming soon to a theatre near you". A theatre doesn't show films - > it's a place for live performances :-)) It confuses the heck out of our > kids. This is true, although I have to say personally I know of no one who actually says, "Let's go to the theatre." Around here we say, "Let's go to the movies." A thing that confuses us Americans (the ones I know, anyway) is using the term "queue" for standing in line. Here we just say, "stand in line," "wait in line," or "line up over there." This not only confused the kids when we were in Scotland, it confused my husband, too, when someone told him to "queue up" and he just stood there confused . . . . ("uh .. pardon me?") And Jane, I have recently read another book where the term "scarper" was used. Thanks again for explaining that earlier or I would really be confused now! Cindy PS: As long as we are on this topic, what is meant by "The Strand"? I have heard this several times, i.e. in a song, "walking in the Strand," and I also think I read it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 07:22:24 -0700 (PDT) From: doug brown Subject: Re: OV: Re: Re: OT: Hard Day's Night > PS: As long as we are on this topic, what is meant > by "The Strand"? It's a famous old street in London, Trafalgar Square is on it. ===== - -Doug . I mean, from the guitar mix to the compressed vocals to the song structure itself... argh.... So, Matchbox 20 can rip-off the Dels, but the Dels can't have a label deal of their own? Right. Great. sigh.... Back into my little cave... I guess it's been released to radio this week. XRT in Chicago says they'll be playing it tomorrow. ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V4 #242 **********************************
