Apologies if it has been passed on to you (your address was in my address book). It is very easy to delete - just follow the instructions below! >Dear All, A colleagues address book has been infected by a virus which in turn was passed on to my computer and infected my address book. Here is how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it. 1. Go to Start, click on Find or Search option 2. In the Files/Folders option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure you search your C: drive and any other drives you may have 4. Click "Find Now" 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT 6. Go to edit; choose "select all" to highlight the file without opening it 7. Now go to file and select "delete". It will then go to the Recycle Bin 8. Go to the Recycle Bin and delete it there as well IF YOU FIND THIS VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THAT THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. I AM EXTREMELYSORRY ABOUT THIS AND I AM SURE THAT AS I HAVE FOUND IT THEN EVERYONE IN MY ADDRESS BOOK WILL HAVE IT AS WELL. To do this, open a new e-mail message Click the photo of address book next to "To" Click every name and add it to BCC Copy this message, enter Subject, paste to e-mail, send ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Sep 2002 06:54:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Alison Bellach Subject: Re: OV: IMPORTANT MESSAGE Before doing the actions described in this message, please read: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html On Tue, 24 Sep 2002, linda.drew wrote: > Sorry guys, we got passed the following, but thought we ought to let you know > about it just in case. > > Apologies if it has been passed on to you (your address was in my address > book). I hope none of you deleted the file unnecessarily. Here's what http://urbanlegends.about.com has to say about it: JDBGMGR.EXE New name. Same old hoax. Related Resources Sulfnbk.exe hoax Restoring Sulfnbk.exe Likely source Jdbgmgr.exe hoax Hoax Encyclopedia Virus Encyclopedia Glossary of terms Last May, the SULFNBK.EXE hoax caused thousands of gullible users to delete a perfectly legitimate system file. Now the same hoax is circulating, this time targeting the equally benign JDBGMGR.EXE. As with the SULFNBK.EXE hoax, it is likely a result of confusion caused by the Magistr virus. While the hoax mail urges users to search for and delete the file if it is found, in reality, JDBGMGR.EXE should be on the system - - it is a standard windows component included with Internet Explorer (at least as far back as version 3.02). For those hapless folks who've deleted the file, reinstalling Internet Explorer or downloading an updated version of Microsoft Virtual Machine should solve the problem. The email hoax urging users to delete this necessary file may be preceded with the dire sounding "National Virus Alert". Following is a sample of the hoax: Hi, everybody: I just received a message today from one of my friends in my Address Book. Their Address Book had been infected by a virus and it was passed on to my computer. My Address Book, in turn, has been infected. The virus is called jdbgmgr.exe and it propagates automatically through Messenger and through the address book. The virus is not detected by McAfee or Norton and it stays dormant for 14 days before wipe out the whole system. It can be deleted before it erase your computer files. To delete it, you just have to do the following: 1) Go to Start, click on "Find" 2) At "files or folders" write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3) Be sure to search drive "C" 4) Click on "find now" 5) If you find the virus (the icon is a little bear with the name jdbgmgr.exe) DO NOT OPEN IT FOR ANY REASON 6) Right click on it and delete the file (it will go to the recycle bin) 7) Go to the recycle bin and delete the file definitivelly or empty the recycle bin. - --- "linda.drew" wrote: > Sorry guys, we got passed the following, but thought > we ought to let you know > about it just in case. > > Apologies if it has been passed on to you (your > address was in my address > book). Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings? Isn't John Lennon the guy that once dated Yoko Ono? Actually I picked this up today and just got through watching it. It looks great. Still a fun time watching too. I'm a little disappointed that they decided not to include the "Making of A Hard Day's Night" documentary for good measure. Ah well, perhaps they will now do "deluxe" remastered editions of Help and Magical Mystery Tour. Or maybe finally put out the Anthology on DVD! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 08:24:17 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Re: OT: Hard Day's Night > In case there are ANY Beatles' fans here... That was the first film I ever went to see at the cinema (my granny took me). Followed a few months later by Pinocchio. Pretty sure the third or fourth was Help! I've never been the same since. Jane (who used to work almost next door to one of the bars where they filmed Help) PS That's another thing you Americans have a different name for. You say theatre, we say cinema. All the trailers at the cinema for American films say "Coming soon to a theatre near you". A theatre doesn't show films - it's a place for live performances :-)) It confuses the heck out of our kids.
