The band will be deciding in due course about the future of Del Amitri and news on this will be released as, if and when this happens through this site. In the meantime, Justin and Iain will be taking a sabbatical. Justin will continue writing songs and Iain is producing an album with Kris for a new band signed to Rough Trade Records. Lastly, one correction to the Daily Record story, Justin is 37 not 38! And if they are, I really hope that the Dels will find back to their roots. Which means making songs with heart and soul. Not that the last album missed this very much, but ... it was just a good album, not more. Not the kind of album that makes me say: There's no better band than the Dels!! The band has yet to decide if Del Amitri is to continue at all, that's the official line. I recently promised a friend of mine to go to an Alice Cooper concert with her (and I don't really like AC), in exchange that she goes to the next Del Amitri concert with me (the next concert in germany, that is). So, you see: they just can't quit! Or I will have to go to Alice Cooper without getting something in return! ;-) Dirk ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2002 15:44:47 +0100 From: "Kevin Cawthorne" Subject: OV: RE: To Kevin and the Dels LOL! Finally getting out of their Mercury deal will be the best thing for them in the long run. Mercury were obviously never going to put effort or money into promotion, so now the Dels are free to find someone who will. And now they can get around to finding a new US label too. I still think they should go the DIY route and hook up with United Musicians (a collective of labels formed by Aimee Mann) or something like iMusic (Artist Direct). They have the fan base to support them, and by holding onto ownership of their records, they stand to make money off of them despite selling fewer copies. Perhaps Justin should come to the US for a while to clear his head, maybe do some solo gigs at someplace like Largo in California and get into a new scene. Dave PS - Mercury will probably compile somre sort of a box set to squeeze every last cent they can from the Del Amitri catalog. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2002 23:57:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Debbie Cushing Subject: Re: OV: It's a GOOD thing LOL Nice suggestion, Dave. It'd be just the thing Justin needs: to get a change of scenery. Might help clear his head and all. Plus, I'm sure there are plenty of us in the U.S. that would LOVE to support him should he choose to do some solo gigs. I'm up for it! I'll even travel (probably have to to catch a gig). I bet you're 100% correct with the "Best of" CD/Box set thing. Corporate bastards! They know we'll buy it, too. debbie - --- SngWrite1@aol.com wrote: > Yes, I said GOOD.
