Alison raps! Actually, that's Doug's job. Anyway, good news and bad news. Good news: I found what was left of the stickers that Kelli made! Bad news: I found 3 stickers that Kelli made! Since Jane was the first one to bring it up, I'm gonna give her one, and I'll do a little drawing for the rest. So, if you already emailed me, I've got you entered, and if you didn't, then do it, dude. A description: they are from when the US site was a loner, so they have the old URL (http://del-amitri.linex.com) as well as I (heart) DEL AMITRI in big block letters. They are high quality and pretty damn cool. :)! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 07:25:35 -0500 From: "Peter Stanley" Subject: OV: Re: oppositeview-digest V4 #200 I don't see the difference in either scenario you present. Mp3 or used disc, the artist doesn't see any money. It might as well be free because the only person making any money is the seller. If you mean "benefit" in the broader sense that the artists' music is further disseminated amongst the masses, then sure I'll agree there. However, unless you are the superstar level the artist's income earning potential will be limited to live performing, and not much else. It's already hard enough to make a decent living as a writer/musician/artist as it is. Case in point: I have a CD available on Amazon. I checked the other day and much to my amusement a used copy was available alongside the new ones. Which do you think I prefer to be purchased? There's no way cds will get under $10.00, but I do feel $17.99 list is highway robbery. I'm all for keeping prices low, so cut out the middleman, buy directly from the artist. This is where the web comes in handy. There's still a middleman (Amazon, CDbaby, etc.) but at least it's manageable because the chain goes artist-retail-consumer, as opposed to artist-record label-distribution network-retail-consumer. That's where your cd money goes. > Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 10:49:35 -0700 (PDT) > From: doug brown > Subject: Re: OV: Re: oppositeview-digest V4 #199 > > The same way buying used books benefits writers, > buying used houses benefits builders or buying used > cars benefit car makers. Bumper stickers aren't as popular in the UK as the US, and they must be relatively recent to have the two website addresses on there in that format. Perhaps it's an enterprising fan, but they appear to be well done, and not outrageously expensive - I wouldn't mind having one myself..... If anyone has any experience of their eBay purchase, please let us know!
