I recently roadied for a local pompey band Loki who were a good live band. Singers got a good voice for what they do, which always helps. But they were thoroughly upstaged by their support, another local band called Rollin' Dog, mixing ska and country styles with amazing solos and catchy lyrics. A bit like early Kalexico if anyone has heard any. Other good local(ish) punk(ish) bandS include Crackout and Reuben. Both have supported major name acts in and around the south of england and their performances have been enjoyed immensly by myself and my gigging buddies! On another note... I SAW GREEN DAY LAST NIGHT! hell yes! great gig at the wembly arena. One memory will stay with me forever...they gave away Bille Joe Armstrong's Gibson SG to a member of the crowd! Anyone else been to any memorable ounk gigs? Or any at all for that matter! Can anybody send them to me? There were three songs, accoustic just with Justin playing the guitar, and I think that the concert was something like The Writers' Circle. Thanks a lot! For the turn of a poetic phrase, I remain dazzled by "The steps of this stone church are peppered with confetti hearts, Like a million little love affairs waiting to fall apart." from "I Won't Take the Blame." For the aural enjoyment brought by hearing Justin sing them, any word like "smoke" or "coat," or anything ending in -ar such as "bar" and "car," sends shivers up my spine. We had to log in to retrieve the right set of recordings, and to make sure we didn't mistype and get someone else's recording so our voice would drastically change at the first "thank you, one moment please", we recorded something we'd hear with each log in. So every time I was screamed at because I was not telepathic and couldn't spell their brother in law's last night (even though they couldn't spell it either) or someone was impatient because they swore their listing was in Minneapolis but really it ended up being in south saint paul, I could just hang up, re login, and I'd always hear my voice in justin's melody..."nobody's perfect..." =-= "This is serious miserablism, okay?" justin currie ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Oh favorite lyrics, some actually diss this song but I love it, and I remember Justin experimentally slipping it into Be My Downfall. Wish he would have tried it more often. "You look like a dream sometimes, but I don't dream these days". Yep from Twisted the last album the Dels actually seemed to have something to say. Oh well I still love them but like most men the Dels were at their best drunk and single. I had something else to say but since I'm over 40 it's like one synapse firing per minute so hold on ... Oh yeah Lisa Germano. Well I heard some of her unexciting solo stuff but oh la la was she something playing violin for Mellencamp on the '94 tour with Texas. ... hazy 8 year old flashback comes sharply into focus, but the color is slightly rosy and wow do I look good! ... ... Texas plays a terrific show featuring the Rick's Road stuff. Mellencamp puts on a two hour show and I know every song. He was darned good but every time Lisa slowly strutted to the center of the stage in time with the music wearing platform heels and a very small mini for her solos they had to carry a few guys off that had fainted. Some shows it's just worth paying extra to sit near the front ya know? Oh then Sharleen comes out for Little Pink Houses and there's this little Scot girl in a band called Texas belting out "Oh but ain't that America for you and me ain't that America somethin' to see baby ain't that America home of the freeeeeeee". Yep '94 was a good year, dry yet fruity with a light bouquet of a Tahiti beach and a complex lingering aftertaste that seems so difficult to find in the new millenium. Yahoo!
