[=?iso-8859-1?q?Michael?= Subject: OV: Barrowlands CD Tree I'm getting requests from people without reference as to where they live. Please make sure you tell me where you live. So, I can assign you to a branch hopefully within the same country! :) Thanks. Darren ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Jul 2002 17:39:23 +1000 From: Alessandro Campobassi Subject: OV: A late gig review + my meeting the dels adventure, & a request.. Hi to all! Well, it's a little late and a little past news, but just thought I'd drop a quick line to the list about my one (and probably only) Del Amitri gig I was lucky enough to see! It was fantastic !! The lads can really put on a live show - Justin is a true front man and really knows how to get the crowd rocking! It was a whirlwhind day for me that's for sure. It all started when I emailed the southampton guildhall as soon as the dates for the tour were announced. Due to work commitments and other hassles it was the only show I could arrange to fly from Australia to go and see. After the Guildhall understood I was coming all the way from Oz to see the show, they offered me free tickets for myself my girlfriend Jen and my english pal Mike J. They also arranged for a bit of media coverage saying it would be great publicity for the town, the guildhall and del amitri. I was so over the moon when Nigel from the Guildhall said I would get some photos with the band etc. I knew the Dels were approachable lads but still I didn't *really* expect that the journalists and media would really give a toss about some Aussie lad who's come to see the Dels. Well after flying into Heathrow on the Wednesday night, getting picked up and driven to Southampton by my mate - we found a hotel, had a few beers just to quickly erase any jetlag Jen and I might have had. The next day, the day of the gig - we were driving around a very sunny Southampton and listening to the local radio, when I hear on the 8am news that some crazed rock fan had flown 15,000 miles to see the Del Amitri gig!!! I nearly shat myself! I guess the media was interested after all - and Nigel from the Guildhall had arranged some stuff. Well, I immediately called the radio station and let them know who I was - and they did a quick phone interview that they aired on the next bulletin. I then called the guildhall to speak with Nigel and all was set for the afternoon - a photo shoot with the band and a chance to hear the sound check etc. Well, I got to meet Justin and Iain and we had a quick chat a few photos and interviews with the local and national UK press. Both Justin and Iain were great and really took some of the corny photo requests (eg. holding up a blow up globe pointing to australia with silly looks on our faces) quite well. It was awesome fun. The lads were very friendly. I also got to meet a few OV'ers as well which was very cool too. But due to the overwhelming situation I'm very sorry to say I forgot a few of the names of the lovely lasses from the states who I met! Sorry - but it was all quite a blur!! I have to say a big thanks to Kevin from the official site who arranged back stage passes for Jen, Mike and I. It was great to have a few beers with all the lads from the Dels and chill out after the show. The acutal gig was great - I have to say the new tracks sound quite awesome live and confirm that Del Amitri can belt out a gig as good as the rest. It leaves alot of hope that even though the new direction was a little electronic - at the end of the day, on stage it's still a gang of guys playing their hearts out! The set flowed quite well and opening with Always the Last to Know really worked as the southampton crowd kicked it in and never really let the vibe go! Now.. sorry this has been such a long email - but I have a couple of requests. As I flew out of the UK the next day I didn't get a chance to see any of the news paper articles (expect the scans Darren sent to OV - thanks Darren!!). If anyone out there has any of them I'd love to get some copies ???? Even scans would be fine if you don't want to part with the original from the paper?? I know of three separate stories in different papers...???? I'd really appreciate any info. I read something about Justin appearing on page 3 of a paper?? Was that the same stories?? Also - If anyone knows what the setlist for the Southampton gig was - could they email that to me??? Anyway - thanks for reading this far if you did, and here's hoping more 'long distance' Del Amitri fans get the chance to have a beer with the lads in the not too distant future.... eg. TOUR AUSTRALIA DEL AMITRI!!!
