Couldn't find one, so this list will have to do - baboom!! Anyhow, was wondering if anyone knew roughly how much webspace a streamable 20 minute video would take up? I realise that there's lots of variables but I'm only looking for an estimate. Well, as Mercury is part Universal which is part of Vivendi which is having some "financial problems" (a mere 40% share price plummet yesterday) the whole label may not exist for much longer. But on the more positive side maybe this will be the kick that sees the band go independent and take control of their own careers. Justin complained about his lack ofcontrol in ther Q&As so this might be the answer. The dels could and should simply go their own way with any new recordings. Besides the traditional routes of promotion and distribution, there is absolutely NO REASON for any artist to sign with or stay on with a major label. And, as has been pointed out, even being on the "most powerful label in the world" is utterly pointless if that label isn't supporting an artist and/or their new release with sufficient attention and promotional $$. Yes, everything is expensive... but for a band like del Amitri, who already has something to build upon, going indie makes the most sense. Sure, record sales may take longer and wind up more modest than previous major-label releases, though even this is debatable, since many new records wind up collecting dust on store shelves due to a label's inattentiveness and no resultant buzz in the market to create new listeners/fans. I've no idea about their contractual obligations to the current label, so don't mean to come off sounding like an 'expert' here. Truth is, there are no experts, only artists who are willing to submit their careers and creativity to other hands, or believe in themselves enough to take matters into their own. Maybe Justin & company should review the choices made by artists like Aimee Mann and John Hiatt in recent years and decide if they too can do it their own way, relatively speaking. Do ya'll really think they'd stay at it and look for another way to put their music out there? Sounds like there are options other than being signed onto a major label, from what some of you have said... And may I say publically what a brilliant job you did on this CD, Darren. It arrived virtually before you sent it! Since it was from the era I have a particular soft spot for, it will get more than a few spins. I have never seen the band live (though Andy and I did a swap for the Hatful of Rain video ). Could I ask those of you in the know how much banter there is between Justin and the audience when it's the real thing. Hard to tell from what I have seen and heard, but he does not seem all that chatty. A lot of perfectionists prefer for their work to do the talking. Just thought I'd ask. The other artist I am fanatic about, Paul Kelly (the Aussie one), is another one of few words, but what he does say never fails to astound.
