It was my first gig there and they really rocked!!! Justin, Iain and Kris were drenched through by the third song - Justin left a big puddle of sweat on the stage and I was terrified they'd be electrocuted! I've never seen anyone sweat so much as they did After Just Getting By - when we thought it was all over - they came on and did the Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen, with Kris on lead vocals. It was performed in the dark, with Justin holding a small torch in his teeth so he could see his fingers - because Justin's shirt was so wet he took it off, and I suppose didn't want everyone to see him topless. But it was just light enough to see him - when Buddy shone a torch on him. it made Taire's night :-)) I was in my element too - as the lovely lady violin player from the Empire gigs came up and they played This Side of The Morning - my all time favourite. Brought tears to my eyes. And for those who always demand Nothing Ever Happens, well they sang that as well. Although Justin could have shut up and the crowd would have sung if all through themselves. We've always heard about the atmosphere at the Barras - and we weren't disappointed. We thought Saturday at the Empire couldn't be beaten - but the crowd last night were amazing, the band didn't stop smiling AND at the end Justin said "See you all at Christmas" - giving us something to look forward to. I was lucky enough to Crash Back Stage after the 1st night in Shepherds Bush.Met the whole band and all I can say is they were the nicest set of people I have ever met. I Also met David Cummings who also was a really nice guy who also was easy to talk to.Met Mark Price's In laws and they were full of Pride of the birth of there new Grandchild.Mark was a really nice guy who spoke highly of the Fans and the rest of the Band. On my way out I said hello to Iain and I finally spoke to Justin who was a real Gent and very nice to speak to, I left the Empire gone 1.00am Whilst outside there were a few Groupies who were still waiting for the band to come out. What a Great Night and a what a Great set of Lads. Its good to know that the Band we love so much are such nice People,Its always daunting meeting people who you admire as it sometimes leads to disappointment but when they are as decent as they were it was a total joy in meeting them. They deserve so much more then what they get,But at least we know how good they really are. Brilliant songs sung from the heart, fantastic playing by everyone in the band (Iain is a star - and the way guitars & bass get swapped through the gig is a testimony to all of them), NEH with strings (even if Justin did forget the words half way through!), and a tear in the eye after Be my Downfall. I was about 10 rows from the front on the left and the sound was great. Maybe I was in the ideal spot - loud, great vocals, tight bass and every instrument easy to follow - a million times better than the Astoria 3 years ago - the engineer there couldn't mix paint! I loved the string quartet, and noticed the girl on the left really getting into Driving with the Brakes On while she was waiting to play again. The new songs really rocked, especially Cash & Prizes, & Just Getting By was the perfect closer, espec with strings. I think the new album's great, 2nd only to Twisted, but the gig proved that real drums kick machines & loops every time! Ditto Darren - what's next? They can't quietly drift off after a tour like that! Tony PS If DIAB is the next single I hope they re-mix it with (even) louder guitars & minus the screechy stuff in the middle. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 23:10:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Debbie Cushing Subject: Re: OV: Re: Re: Barra's Hmmm...deja vu...I could be starting a new tradition...Christmas in Glasgow. :-) And the Barras again to boot!
