I suspect the venue itself is the problem. Excellent to see the addition of the string quartet, a pity this was only for the two London gigs (I presume), I'd imagine that would be down to cost. The sound also wasn't loud enough at the back - it's amazing how many people are chattering away whilst Justin is singing the quieter songs. You wonder why they bother coming, frankly. Croydon, and the sound was immeasurably better - and having seats a few rows back I was in the perfect position to see and hear. ( At Shepherd's Bush, unless you were well over 6 feet tall or right in front of the stage it was difficult to see anything much because of the crush of bodies and the level floor). At Croydon, each row of seats is a bit higher than the one in front so that you get a decent view (everyone stood up, obviously, but the effect is still the same). An excellent rendition of the Quo tune ( was that bit about one of Iain's fav bands a piss take?), with Buddy on guitar as Iain looked on! Finished on the dot at 10.30 PM, which I'd imagine had a lot to do with having to get themselves and the gear to Glasgow for the next night! Unbelievable that a band this good isn't playing live more regularly - - I don't want to wait another three years before seeing them again. Ticket sales for this tour must show that they are viable. How about another Albert Hall gig, with the acoustic and electric set? They'd sell it out, no problem. I almost expected the guys to be a bit stationary but they moved around more than I do on Sunday mornings when I played football!!! All that time of playing together has made them as tight as any band I have ever seen (Blur take note). Played all the ones I wanted/expected except NEH, which was a bit disappointing. One gripe I have tho' was that from where I was (Level 2) it seemed that those down on the 'Floor' just stood and watched and didn't seem to be able to 'get into it' I even saw people checking mobile phones for messages etc. Of the 30-40 bands I have been to see this was probably the least animated crowd I have ever seen! Maybe those huge wire barriers at the front had something to do with it, but still.... Any way whinge over. If any of you were in the O'Neills pub next door before the gig you may well have seen us in there as I was with the girl who passed out and had to have an ambulance called for her. Still in true Dels fan style she recovered herself and went to the gig anyway!!!!!!!!!! Don't take the critiscism personally if you were one of those down on the floor. It was a great gig, I just expected to see people 'Get into it a bit more' Jim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 15:51:32 +0100 From: "Leighton J. Bigger venue, all seated, but everyone rushed to the front. loads of space and jump around and dance and sing and all that bollocks. The sound was far superior and it was far better. It was also Ian's 40th birthday so the ending was great. Cannot believe they are 40ish. I have followed them myself for 12 years now and as usual was left disappointed that I didn't hear NEH. Apparently they played it at Friday's SB gig, typical. Anyway, welcome aboard and continue the good work. Del Amitri rock!!!! Who wouldn't stop saying "he said hello to me" because Justin went into rock pose and said hello to her during one of the songs! I never seemed to get a very good view either, so when I heard they were coming to Shepherds Bush I decided to avoid it and go to the one in Bristol instead. I'm now sad that I missed them because I was really disappointed not to hear NEH! The string version sounds wonderful. Oh well, here's hoping they tour again soon!
