I was going to Bristol tonight originally but The Alarm, Pete Wylie and Wah! plus Spear of Destiny are playing locally - all of them still out on an awesome live show. Mike Peters fronting The Alarm still performs with the energy, intensity and passion that he did 20 years ago, he must put jump leads on his gonads before each gig!! Pete wrote classy songs too but would be a stand up comedian if he wasn't a musician I'm sure, he's hilarious. City's game finishes at 20 to 9, that'll just about give me time to wave cheerio to the Swansea fans and wish them well with their continual struggle then jumping a taxi to St Davids Hall - what a top night out! Take care, hope to see you all sometime soon, you just never know! Teresa here, former lurker, who went to her first Dels concert last night with my pal Kat. It was as good if not better, than I'd been told it would be. They've played my corner of the world, the Pacific Northwest, Seattle to be exact, but I didnt know about them at the time. :-( So as any good convert, when I found out they'd be playing Manchester, I arranged my vacation around it :-D My flight from Seattle was not quite as eventful as Kelly's, but we were laid over in Calgary while they 'fixed' the plane. And speaking of Kelly, as we were leaving the concert, a door I happened to be walking past flew open, struck my wrist as I was nearly run over by some drunk rowdy. the security guy grabs him by the scruff and throws him back in the hall. Miss Kelly approaches, and says, excuse but arent you an American? LOL Though it was a brief meet, we gave her a lift to her hotel, it was terrific meeting someone you sorta 'know'. Again, it was just fantastic to see and hear them in the flesh. Words cant really describe it. We're off to see more of the beautiful north. AND the SUN is shining, a delightful thing for a Seattlite to see. ~T LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! Title: Quality Sounds from enigmatic Del Amitri DEL AMITRI are something of an enigma. Blessed with as many tunes as their contemporaries, they have somehow failed to capture the public's imagination and are seldom named as anyone's favourite band. Their lack of massive success isn't down to a lack of sex appeal either, according to a friend of mine. She has been known to feel light-headed at the sight of lead singer Justin Currie clad in a pair of leather trousers and, judging by the scenes in Birmingham last night, she isn't the only one. Fortunately, their appeal is wider than that, having accumulated a large batch of classic tunes during a decade spend producing guitar pop of the highest order. There are few signs of a change in musical direction with the band's new material, with familiar melancholy tales of lost love sitting easily alongside their previous work. It will undoubtedly lead to the chagrin of critics who are desperate for something groundbreaking. But, when the tunes are as good as this, who cares? Another great concert and a great crowd response, especially with the singing. Almost like everyone in the audience was singing Be My Downfall! (see link below) As for comments about being a bit short at 1 1/2 hours, judging by the effort (and sweat!) put in by the band, I doubt if they would have the energy for anything longer. We will have to pursuade them to do an acoustic set instead of the support band (as per Royal Albert Hall), the only way they will be on stage for longer. The support band: They are dreadful. I would rather watch paint dry, a view supported by everyone that I have spoken too. And now a request to Kevin, could you please put Cash and Prizes on the site? I know a lot of people don't like this track but live it's awesome and I'd rather people listen to it 'from the soundboard' rather than 'from the navel' (well that's where my microphone was!) as can be downloaded from the following link: www.btinternet.com/~miklyn/tour2002.htm Cheers Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 07:49:55 +0100 From: "Hilary Gray" Subject: OV: Re: RE: Reviews Thanks very much Mike. It sounded like everyone enjoyed themselves. Bumped into Iain yesterday and he said what a good gig it was. We all went to Bristol yesterday - but although the place was sold out the audience seemed to be pretty dead apart from a few of us in the front row. It's an all seated venue - and that's just what most of the audience did - stayed seated. The band gave 110% as usual though and I thoroughly enjoyed the gig. Looking forward now to being joined by some of our American friends for the final leg of the tour - Lori, Taire, Rosemary and Bobbie - Sherry is already over here, and also to meeting Sandro from Oz and Cris from Spain. We're all going to be going to five nights on the trot - which will be exhausting, but I'm sure, so much fun. Including the realisation of a dream - seeing the Dels on their home territory in their favourite venue. Iain's latest diary entry tells of their love for Barrowlands - and I am getting very excited at the thought of finally getting to feel that atmosphere. As for Cousteau - I don't think they're THAT bad. Just not suitable for this type of tour or this kind of audience. And even if you don't like the music, the drummer is quite fun to watch. Those of you who hated the album track might like to give the live version a listen. Iain's guitar work is wonderful - very "Shaft" and '70's disco at times - but it gives the song a whole new slant. You can find it in the Tour section, under Interactive.
