["Jane Armstrong" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 3 May 2002 09:58:37 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Set list SPOILER!!! I am still on Cloud 9 - I haven't slept a wink all night but I'm not tired and my face aches from the big cheesy grin which even having my kids bounce on me at 6.30 in the morning can't shake (actually my son Alex has an equally wide grin and is taking his autograph book to school to show everyone) I wasn't prepared for the impact seeing Del Amitri again would have on me. From the very first note the whole audience was up and cheering. They had us in the palm of their hands and I'd almost forgotten how wonderful they are. If any of you can beg, steal or borrow the airfare to come over at all you MUST do so (that's if you can get tickets - it was full last night, and I know tonight's gig is sold out as is the first Barrowlands and first London gig - but Ticketmaster still has tickets for the other gigs). Rob a bank if you have to. Anyway, here's the set list from last night according to the printed list. I liked the irony of having Stone Cold Sober followed by Drunk In A Band! Always The Last To Know When I Want You Buttons On My Clothes Not Where It's At Just Like A Man She's Passing This Way Be My Downfall Just Before you Leave Cash & Prizes Jimmy Blue Stone Cold Sober Drunk In A Band Here & Now Jesus Saves Driving With The Brakes On Kiss This Thing Goodbye Just Getting By A few more things as they come to me - I think Kris and Iain played the bass more than Justin did almost. Oh, and Leah would have liked the song they played after the gig (or maybe not!) - "Every Breath You Take" - but sung in a very flat voice and completely out of tune. I don't know who it was - but wonder if it was Buddy or one of the crew. For those of you (us) interested in such things, Justin had jeans and a black shirt on, Iain had a brown and black shirt (sort of brown and black diamonds) and dark trousers I think. Kris had a silver grey suit, Mark was in his usual white t-shirt and Andy had a typical Andy checked shirt. During "She's Passing This Way" and "Just Getting By" Kris played one of those things - I can't remember what they're called, Help! - which has a keyboard but you blow it. All the band were really lovely to my son - Justin called him a very important young man, and Mark signed his autograph to "the youngest rocker in town", Andy kept pulling faces and making him laugh and Iain was chatting away to him for ages (or probably the other way round). It really made his night. Just Before You Leave sounded great live. Kris is a brilliant bassist - amongst his many talents. Last tour Iain played his golden Les Paul most of the time - this time he seemed to be playing a different guitar for every tune. Kris' beautiful mother of pearl Zematis guitar made it's appearance - I particularly noticed it during Jimmy Blue. Drunk In a Band is destined to be a runaway hit at gigs - people went wild when they did it. Most of the audience seemed to know all the songs - old and new - and enjoyed themselves immensely, apart from some woman behind me who was obviously dragged there by her boyfriend, and who stayed sitting down the whole evening with a real gob on her. (Rather like a certain someone who was sitting a few seats away from me when they played "Stone Cold Sober" - no names mentioned, but anyone who's been to a gig with us will know exactly who a I mean!) T- shirts - quite plain some with Del Amitri logo in red front and back and tour dates written very small - some with Can You Do Me Good in white in a small red box on the front and Del Amitri on the Back. They come in a choice of three colours I think (or maybe 4) - pale blue (I got one of those), mustardy colour I think (the lighting wasn't brilliant) and navy - #15. They also have a skinny fit navy V neck with the logo and CYDMG and a skinny fit baseball shirt in light grey with dark grey sleeves and CYDMG on the front and Del Amitri on the back. They are tiny - they fit Alex. They were #18. Posters for a quid. No tour book :-( If anyone wants to place an order and can send me the money by Paypal please contact me off-list and I'll send you one. The normal T-shirts come in M, L and XL and the skinny ones in M and L (though the M is the size which fitted an under-sized 9 year old). It was great to meet old friends and to put faces to names. We OV'ers get around a bit! Sorry this is so scrappy. I've not slept for over 24 hours. (It's been so long!) Was in the second row, right in the middle, and the sound was excellent. There were a few cock ups (mind you there are usually one or two!) and they were understandably nervous to begin with but soon warmed up and were clearly enjoying it. The new songs definitely sound better live - much more power to the overall sound and the drums sound a lot better, plus the guitars are more upfront. No! They will mug you, drag you out and pour cheap beer (Budweiser even!) in your camera. Those Birmingham sob's coincidentally are the worst. I think they have hooks on big cranes and just pluck photographers out of the balconey and dump them in a garbage chute. See Russell for more info. The problem is the venues provide security and they say no photos, though the band doesn't seem to mind at all. Your best bet is no flash and clear it with Quinner ahead of time so he can tell security, but the band doesn't always have control over this. You can try to sneak some without a flash, some places it's no problems - others see above. Whatever you do - no flash! - - Doug, President of the Coalition For Less Fashion Reports In OV. Yahoo!
