Has anyone got any good Del Amitri anecdotes, musings, theories etc that'd be great to share. Here's one of mine. I started to get heavily into Del Amitri around their 'Waking Hours' album. I got a fair few CD singles and collectors thingies and ticket stubs on my walls and the usual trappings for an over enthusiastic fan. They were releasing stuff for 'Change Everything' . Like I've said before, they themed my life. If you ever read Nick Hornby's 'Fever Pitch' they are to me what football is to him. Wherever they were in life, it seemed to parallel where I was. Anyway, as first relationships tend to do, it broke down (hellish story) and I turned to Justin for succour. Singing the lyrics to myself over and over, wanting to write poetry and go for long blustery walks. Out of that blue however I had a thought. I really didn't want the Del's tied so strongly to my shitty memories, music can be a direct hotline to nostalgic moments in your life and I didn't need to be forming this pathway. So I wrapped everything up and put it in a big shoe box in my loft for 4-5 months. It sounds silly but I wasn't going to loose them thanks to evil exlady. What do they say, partners come and go, but a friend is for life. When I finally started to see another girl the first thing I did after I floated home on cloud nine was scramble into the loft to open the box. WOW, the same lyrics were telling me, "Yeh, poop happens but you learnt from that" Be my downfall be my great regret be the one girl That I'll never forget Be my undoing be my slow road to ruin tonight Even the most sombre of lyrics were upbeat for me and patting me on the back for strength of character and growing from the experience. While 'Sometimes I just have to say your name' was nudging me, smiling and whispering in my ear your in love again aren't you? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 20:23:09 +1000 (EST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Michael?= Subject: Re: OV: Anecdotes Just like you Paul I think that you can almost map my relationships according to the Dels. The first time I ever heard "Be My Downfall" I was completely smitten by Justin's lyrical expertise, particular given my situation at the time. In a fairly volcanic relationship, I was unhappy and feeling pretty crappy about life. No more than an hour after I had heard BMD for the first time I met someone who I instantly, helplessly and eternally fell in love with... Caught between my emotions and feelings of obligation to my then girlfriend I never said anything to anyone about how I felt about the woman I had just met. To cut a long story short we all went on with our lives and, subsequently, our seperate ways. The relationship I was in eventually crashed and burned severely but thanks to Justin I still have that jewel from Change Everything that makes me draw a rye smile everytime I hear it...my great regret, the one girl that I'll never forget. Take care, Michael:) --- Paul Naylor wrote: > OK this may put me under the umbrella heading that > is 'SAD', but what the > hell.
