["Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: later with Jools Hi I was lucky enough to have tickets for the show last night. Del recorded two songs, first off was JBYL. I must admit this would never have been my choice for a single, but tonight 'live' it sounded really classy. Justin's voice was on top form and it almost seemed effortless. 'Buttons on my clothes' was the next track chosen (does this mean it could be the next single?) this sounded particularly good especially the harmonies between Cris,Iain and Justin. Due to technical problems they had to do the song twice, second version took nothing away from the first in fact it was even better. This was only a small taster for the up-coming tour but on last nights showing, we should be in for a real treat next month! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 07:41:38 EDT From: MinervAthene@aol.com Subject: Re: OV: later with Jools Ooh... lucky you!! Also on the show were Sterophonics (who were excellent, Del took a keen interest in their set) Badly Drawn Boy playing songs from the soundtrack to 'About A Boy' and a bizarre 'Ramones wanabes'? from Australia called The Vines. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 07:11:28 -0700 From: j Subject: OV: del amitri RE: import fees to u.s. hiya jane, i've bought quite a few cds from ebay from the uk...nim compilations, etc., and i've never paid anything more than the cost of shipping which in some cases the seller is reasonable and others they rip you off...same as here! i think the value of the cd is so low and that the sender is shipping it on their own and not going to the post office and filling out an export doc like i have to fill out everytime i ship something to my son in the us army in germany...but if i mail it myself...it bypasses all of that. go figure! hope that helps! jeanie in simi (a small burb just north of LA) ps, has anybody checked to see if the songs are on audiogalaxy yet? or any other music share? Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 15:33:08 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: OT - Import Tax Just purely out of interest, has anyone had to pay any import tax/duty in the US on CD's sent from Britain - either via a commercial purchase or when individuals send them to you. A number of people have cited import tax as one of the reasons why they are reluctant to buy the new CD from the UK. I have been buying stuff from the US and the only time I have ever had to pay duty was when the seller declared the price of the Gameboy I bought to be $100 on the little green form (I actually only paid $80 for it - so I ended up well and truly stuffed!). Anything under $100 has never attracted any duty at all (especially if you mark it as a gift rather than merchandise). I just wondered if the US and Canada were a lot stricter. So I thought I would give my views on the album. I certinaly wouldn't say it was rubbish but its not their best that is for sure. These are some views but I should say these may change- Just before you leave: really didn't like it at first intro sounds alot like the first one on the 'best of'(I forget the name) but it has really grown on me I find myself singing it long after i've turned it off! Cash and Prizes: its ok I quite like it the guitar in the background is nice but I disagree that it should have been the first single its not what the dels need! Drunk in a Band: slightly cringeworthy to be honest. It'll be good live and I have a wee chuckle at it otherwise its the last song I would use to introduce anyone to the dels. One more last hurrah: haven't listened to this one that much I hate the intro but like it better when it gets into it a bit! Buttons on my clothes: like this alot I know the drums are a bit dodgy but they work, its got a good strong chorus. Baby its me: not that keen on this one its ok. Wash her Away: I really dont like the intro on this one either was it this one that that friend vomited to! It does get better but it does make me feel slightly ill! I should mention that I had the same experience with the Full Monty film sountrack it actually made me physically ill! (useless piece of info) Last Cheap Shot at the Dream: I kind of like it but not as much as I thought I would after all the stuff that was said on the list about it! Out Falls the Past: A completly krap start it souds like it should be on a Monkees episode not that I dont like it the bit where Justin begins the chorus bit its really nice. Shes Passing this way: no one seems to have said alot about this one but its beyond a doubt my favourite on the album I love it. I saw it live in the Virgin store thing with three accoustic guitars and it was lovely, i'm not a soppy person when Justin sings the follow your heart bit i just think classic del amitri. Jesus Saves: not too keen but like the message its saying Just Getting By: Havent listened to this one much so not got a real view on it! Basically its not a terrible album but nothing it my view can beat Twisted which is an amazing album with each song being a favourite! I'm only 21 and feel i am really into music not really music like Del Amitri funnily enough but bands like the Ramones, Idlewild, At the Drive in, and various bands nothing like them. The thing that keeps me comming back to the dels is lyrically they challange any band you care to mention and yes it includes U2, the Beatles, Bob. (i've had to argue this point quite alot!) That is my problem then with the new album it isnt really that strong lyrically or even musically but in the end I know I like it I just dont love it which is a shame! I live in Scotland and in alot of ways the Dels are a bit of a joke (why did they release the football song) the problem being that they are not fasionable and they know it. They have never managed to catch on to any trend unlike Travis or Texas , not that they are that fashionable but they have both recived massive critical acclaim and massive success but in the end the Dels before this album were far stronger in every area. They are sadly one of the most underrated bands ever and I now dont see that ever changing! It almost brings a tear to my eye! These are just my views and I know most people may not agree but thats ok. cheers A very tired out Lindsay _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 16:03:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Michael Mitchell Subject: OV: ot: Eileen Rose Thanks everyone who recommended Eileen Rose. But that's not what makes it a great album. It's that voice! And don't forget that Eileen is currently touring the US. New US dates have been added - but not yet confirmed - though her gig at the Borderline on 13th May has been cancelled. (Probably just as well as we would have been knackered - going there as well as all the various Dels gigs). Jane > Thanks everyone who recommended Eileen Rose. He's actually a Presbyterian Minister! He's really into his music and causes quite an uproar in some churches for what he says and believes. He's recently written a book on U2 that deals with them and their songs from a christian point of view. At present he's writing another book that will look at other artists who write about God, christianity and spirituality but don't necessarily proclaim to be christians. I was chatting to him about this and suggested the Dels, we talked at some length about "So Many Souls To Change" and a few other song's. He's a really big fan but said he'd have to wait and see how the album did - he doesn't think they'd warrant a chapter to themselves but perhaps a mention in a chapter about smaller artists. at last, I know something! andrew ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:54:45 +0100 From: Hopping James W Subject: OV: RE: later with Jools When is this to be shown please?
