I had no idea you were out here! As a former Southern Californian, I LOVE it out here - so there's no need for you to be saved! :) However, I do live just north of Chicago and I have no idea what life is like the part of Wisconsin that you're currently in. I will say, however, that seeing the Dels in Chicago in a much different experience than seeing them in LA. The fan base here is absolutely incredible. I don't know why that is - maybe because WXRT is such a strong support or something. If it's not too far a trek, make sure to "come on down" when the Dels return to Chi-town. My how I laughed, still I haven't got my copy yet so is this a real change in direction for the guys? I asked her what that meant and she said that her dad had a cabin there. When I said "What? At the capitol of Iceland?" she said, "No! In Northern Wisconsin!" So either a) it's a small city that I can't finf any internet reference too, b) it's the name of the cabin, or c) it's the name of the neighborhood the cabin is in. Geez, people in Wisconsin sure do make things complicated. Secondly, I moved here from California because I was hoping that if I was closer to Chicago, JRP would be more helpful. HA! HA! HA! Just kidding. I got laid off and moved here to live with my boyfriend, who is a resident at UW. I met him in Egypt. He doesn't love Del Amitri, but he did listen to every Del Amitri album and bside in order on our drive out here from CA. That's dedication, baby. The contest to give away the single in the US gave me a good idea who lives out here; if anyone wants to hang out, I am totally up for that! The number one album midweek is Celine Dion who has sold 27,000 odd. Now 51 has sold over 69,000 (compilation charts). Single-wise, Gareth "I'm a popidol" Gates has sold over 40,000 and is number one at the moment - Closest to him is Miss Spears at just under 20,000 Unfortunatley I am not allowed to tell you mid-week sales for the single, but a few more are needed to make the Dels top 20, put it that way. So it really comes down to the store managers and buyers who preorder however many CDs they think they will need. It seems pretty obvious based on what you Brits are saying that these people did not expect much of a demand for the CD. - --- darren@bendcable.com wrote: > Jane, > *I think* Mercury wasn't prepared to sell 2 dozen > discs! I think there is no such place and it may just be the nickname of the cottage or their family's "joke" about Northern Wisconsin being "Iceland." It certainly could pass for Iceland some years! Anyway, I can tell ya . . Steve has this "atlas" for fishermen, called a Wisconsin Atlas & Gazeteer (so they can drive around and find that somewhere between this patch of scrub and that dead tree stump there might be a great place to catch trout!) It even comes with a magnifier! I swear every nook, cranny and shrub in Wisconsin is in this thing and there is no Reykjavik or anything remotely similar. Also, if you are in the Madison area, WMMM (105.5) is a station you will hear Dels and other music that is otherwise not played in Wisconsin. I have to drive west over the Dodge County line in order to get it in my car.
