All dels albums sell well initially when they are released, it's the week after that the sales really drop. When the hardcore fan-base have bought the album there aren't many hangers-on to chalk up sales. I think most of their albums have entered in the top 10 if I'm not mistaken, I'd like to think this one will as well. Hi Everyone again Did anyone know the Dels were appearing in Virgin stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow today? I went along to the Edinburgh one at half twelve. I was very excited because I've been a fan for a long time but have never actually seen the laddies live. (although I do have my ticket for the Glasgow gig). There was a very select crowd of people there some young some old some even curious. They did about three from the new album and a couple of the golden oldies! They then did a signing and I have to say did make a complete arse of myself with Justin Currie. I was pretty stars struck and actually forgot how to spell my name but he happily signed my well used copy of Twisted (the best one I think) and the new album. Nevermind it was nice to meet them and i'm really looking forward to the concert now. Before I go I would like to recommend another Scottish band called Idlewild I really love them and are also as underrated as the dels. I should say though that they are nothing like the dels they are kinda punky! Well here is one fan that Justin hasn't p****d off.First listen I thought it was pretty good, different yes.Drunk In A Band what a song! Why on earth not release a catchy number like that as your first release?I am quite sure we would be looking at at least top 20 with that one.All in all I would rate it 8/10 and thats just based on one listen.Well thats my ten pence worth. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Apr 2002 14:08:35 -0400 From: Bette Hanson Subject: OV: Of false-etto note... In response to Justin's quote in the Independent: "We tried it once before and we got letters saying, 'This is disgusting - you sound like Wet Wet Wet!' We were, of course, trying to sound like the BeeGees." Do you think he was referring to late 60's white soul, "To Love Somebody" (written for Otis Redding) Beegees, 70's disco era "More Than a Woman" Bee Gees or current aging rocker/legend/CBE awarded "You Win Again" Bee Gees ??? Just wondering... Bette Philadelphia PS Will any blessed/informed OV'er please email me privately and pass along where I can get NTSC versions of the various DE videos available. It's Del Amitri but with a twist and I absolutely can't wait to see them live (Oxford and Sheps Bush). My only gripe is that they tease me with a 7:30 minute track (had a look in the sleeve before listening) that isn't that long! Being the prog fan I am I love the longer songs (thought I'm an Unbeliever was one of the best things they've recorded). Also, I can't believe that Cash and Prizes wasn't the first single. If that wasn't the perfect comeback single I'm not sure what is. Now I just hope that because of the (relatively) poor chart placing for JBYL, the dels don't get dropped by the wayside in terms of future promotion (not that they had any anyway). What I must say is that I was worried about buying the new album after the fairly poor feedback we've been getting. Despite all the different types of music I listen to, I've never been a huge fan of loops or the like. I didn't even real have that "buzz" I get when I buy a new release from a band I love (had it already this year with Dream Theater, will probably have a heart attack as soon as I see Rush's album in stores in May). Then I got home and put it on, all is fine! Ok...the day starts well, I get the new album, listen to it all day and enjoy it....any worried I had gone.....But then time for the best bit! Myself and my freinds meet outside Vigin in Glasgow at 4pm....she says.....have you got your tickets cos its says sold out in there....I say hahahah very funny you don;t need tickets....she continues to assure me thats what it say in the window.....sure enough it did......now did I miss something or did it say you needed tickets for this thing anywhere??? Anyway, I march in..........my freind slinks away in fear of a scene.....speak to a very nice man who calls someone who to cut a very long story short brings me down three wristbands....phew! WE go to Pizza Hut for tea where i try to dampen down the cold sweat from the fear of not being able to get in! We get in about 5pm....as I walk in the door I see Iain walking out talking on his phone, so of course I stare a bit. Go upstairs, the band were playing on the first floor....everyone but Justin is wandering around, which is a tad worrying.....we are right at the front and five minutes before the band come on an older guy with a big camera plonks himslef down and starts ordering us all around......then he starts on his packed luch.....when done he turns his attention to us.....its all very bizarre, hes saying how this band are quite good, he has a few of their albums.......he starts complaining about the price he paid for his cd.....considering you can buy it for 5 quid less across the street ??!! Anyway.........the band come on......Justin looking.......well edible really....Iain looks great.....and for the first time I thought Kris looked very cute.....Andy.....well Andy looked as if he was on another planet..........Mark wasn't there due to the imminent arrival of his baby......the used a drum machine which Andy was operating....badly! They opened with Just Before You Leave.....Cash and Prizes.......She's passing this way....then onto some oldies, Tell Her this....Last to Know and finally Be my Downfall.....strange choices I thought but truly excellent!!!! Justin complained of having a cold and head filled with cotton wool...but you'd never have known!....To be honest, my perception at first was that they looked bored and just wanted to get off but then they did look as if they were enjoying theirselves.,I know I did!.....Our man with the camera (who I had moved away from because he kept talking!) poked my arm mid song to say 'I think they are better than Wet Wet Wet don't you?......And take my word for it.....this was in no way a reference to the Independent interview.....I just looked....I mean what can you say to that?....The band did seem to know him......he was ordering about the official photographer and shouting stuff at the band....Justin said 'is that that noisy ba****** from Dunfermline in?' Which he was he'd already told us that.....God knows who he was.....it was quite surreal anyway.....! I waited to 'be signed' I'd taken Lousy and can you do me good.....also my wristband.....Justin was first at the table, he was very charming and talkative.....not like the Justin I've met previously, although thank god he didnt seem to remember! He posed for a pic and he was saying next week there will be another date announced for the barrowlands, 20th May as the 9th is sold out..... I took lots of pics with my wee glittery camera I'll get them devolped tomorrow if anyone wants them drop me a line! Can You Do Me Good?
