Just look at that lovely manky upholstery and strip wooden flooring. That's the Northern Line before they f**ked it up with fluorescent lighting and primary colours that is. Ah, magic. So, the music. Well it's - deep breath here - not bad at all. Roundly summed-up as "Del Amitri in soul shocker" with Lauryn Hill producer Commissioner Gordon behind the desk, 'Just Before You Leave' is heavily reminiscent of Timmy Thomas' enduring soul masterpiece 'Why Can't We Live Together'. The theme is decidedly middle-aged but we can't have it all our own way. Look out for the video - it's almost as ace as the sleeve. - --------------- Thing I don't get, this guy is obviously middle-aged to remember the Northern Line like the cover :-| Kevin Cawthorne Webmaster - The Official Del Amitri Website UK http://www.delamitri.co.uk - ------------------------------------------------------ This message and any attachment has been virus checked - ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2002 12:21:56 -0000 From: "Duncan Conry" Subject: [none] Having just read the Sunday Mail I cannot see an advert for the new single, previously for all other singles I recall were always in the paper. How on earth can the management team expect the single to do well if the general public/casual fan does not even know there is a release. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2002 08:52:59 -0600 From: Leah D Schenkenberg Subject: Re: OV: Amazon UK review This review reminds me of playing solitaire. If you play vegas style, with three cards and they keep track of the money, I was always so disappointed if I had what seemed to be a great game, but didn't win. Because you could have almost every thing uncovered and all these great stacks of black and red, but if those 2s and aces were stuck under that last card you couldn't move, you couldn't put anything on the top, and that was the only thing that gave you any money. I always thought I should get some recognition for having such great stacks. I'm a bad person to ask about my feelings towards the new songs, because I really don't mind Del Amitri being my litlte private band. Very selfish, I know, but I had to explain to someone the other day that You're so Vain is not a Janet Jackson song....and I really don't want to fight for that space right in front of the stage with people like that when they come into town (if they ever do again). I guess the point is that I wish they could have some of the benefits of being such a great band without having to strive for some elusive (and temporary) popular following with one or two hit songs... To justify why I rambled about vegas solitaire at the beginning, they don't get any of that (except from us devoted lucky ones) for having lots of great albums...it's only if you get that one song that makes you...I don't know...cool or whatever. I know that's not the nature of the music industry, or of solitaire, but I wish it was. Quietly they've gone about their business, turning out four albums of dependably accomplished and unfashionable rock with a middle America twang...Sticking resolutely to their earthy, no-frills values, it's hardly going to set the world alight, but with singer Justin Currie's cunning metaphors for love, drugs and self-loathing undiminished, it certainly shouldn't be underestimated. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Thought I might try and buy it 2 days early but was told it wasn't beng released until 1st April. Arriving home I have an email from Opal advertising the new single, again on 1st April. Both websites indicate a 25th March release. Are we going to be dissappointed tomorrow? Cheers Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2002 19:06:58 -0000 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Re: JBYL release Date Mike Although we've been told it's being released tomorrow, I've also seen an April 1st release date in some places. The advertising all says 25th March, and I think the Band expect it to be tomorrow - but record shops are saying 1st April. I do know that both Oasis and Travis have new singles out tomorrow - perhaps Mercury have decided to put it back a week. It's all getting very confusing. When I tried to order it about 10 days ago it wasn't even showing on HMV's computer system, though they did have a print out with it on. I guess we're going to have to find out the hard way tomorrow! On the eve of the day we've been dreaming of for a very long while, there was an interview with Justin in todays Sunday Post headlined 'Del Amitri set to shock their diehard fans'. We seem to have heard a lot of this lately, about how the long term fans are going to find much to like in this album, and I've pretty much ignored it till now, but it is starting to get a tad worrying! In the interview Justin is quoted as saying ''It feels like a comeback in a way. I know we have a fan base out there, but to be honest it's not the real keenies we're trying to please-it's the 'floating voters' we're interested in''. Now......I really can't make up my mind whether to be offended or not! He goes on to say ''We wanted to be as traditional as possible, but this time we've used machines as much as we can....which should make playing live a little more difficult!'' Ah well.......I'll still be outside HMV in Sauchiehall Street tomorrow as the doors open............ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2002 23:45:02 -0000 From: "Hilary Gray" Subject: OV: Re: Re: JBYL release Date I'd be prepared to be disappointed. I had ordered a copy of the singles from Amazon.co.uk along with a separate DVD, all due for release tomorrow. I've an email to say that the DVD has been shipped, but the singles haven't. They are still showing as due to be released tomorrow, but usually they would have shipped today. Surely after all the publicity they've done saying 25th March they can't put it back at this late stage - can they? And if they do, I wonder why. April 1st is a Bank Holiday, has Easter got something to do with it? And will they be putting back the Album release by a week too? BTW, the album is showing as 145 in the sales ranking. Is this good?
