He looked incredibly unimpressed at being introduced as a 'heartthrob', though :) Oh, the actual news? Nothing that hasn't been on the website already. So I think the lesson to be learned from the past few years is the you, Alison and the band really need to run everything past me before it reaches the general public. Let's face it, I have my finger on the pulse of the semi-educated short attention span driven by primal instincts male demographic that makes up most of the record buying public. Women are still a mystery to me of course, but slap some sexy pics of Justin, Iain (oh and of course Andy for his two fans) on the cover and that seems to keep them happy. Now where were we? Oh yes, if Doug was King, the band would have had a much much faster followup to Roll To Me for America. I still think releasing a new version with an edited "A Better Man" and releasing that as the next single was the way to go. Then NWIA. What to do to push an aging rock band gone soft? There was only one single on this one, "Life is Full". They completely missed the boat on this fabulous mass appeal song. Of course those astoundingly ugly vidoes and the whole putrid yellow dingy wallpaper scheme would have gotten shelved. And Justin making rude comment about Lady Di's death would have been streamed to MTV with images of Johnny Rotten morphed in, some great publicity missed there. Of course I would have also masterminded the entire genocide of the Cry To Be Found project, except of course those gorgeous hunky photos of the band. There was only one worthy single from this era, One Step At A Time. Let's face it, it could have been the wedding song of the year, and what band doesn't want one of those? Now fast forward to 2002. Of course the band wouldn't have had to wait so long for the music industry to find them again if they had followed my simple plans for success but no sense beating the dead duck. So here we are. I haven't heard the whole CD yet but I trust at least some of the people who say pretty much everything on it is better than what we've heard so far. It's admittedly not hard to believe given what the label has put out so far. So I would: 1) Find another single as quickly as possible. Drunk In A Band sounds like a good candidate. 2) Hire whoever did Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" video to do the Dels one. 3) Take all the new trash off all the websites except for "I'm An Unbeliever", an excellent teaser for the real CD no matter what it's like. This is the only song of the bunch that leaves you wanting more, the rest of it scares me into thinking what the new CD will be like. 4) Send Vick Plectrum off to where he belongs - selling condoms in Russia.
