There are also the new photos as seen on the site as well as a new discography that hints of Justin recording a new single or two with someone that is expected to go top ten! Well, it wasn't me, since I didn't even know the place existed. But I guess now there's 14 of us who've voted for Mr. Currie. Thanks Sarah, that was a good laugh. :-) Cris - ----- Mensaje Original ----- > Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 11:54:34 EST > From: MinervAthene@aol.com > Subject: OV: website reveals: Justin Currie "best sex option of > all time" > > Okay, girls, 'fess up - which of you have been to thespark.com and > put Justin > Currie as the answer to the last question in the slut test?!! > Twelve women > have done so, which is quite impressive really! :) > > Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Mar 2002 11:07:14 -0500 From: "William Kates" Subject: OV: The New Songs First, a giant thank you to Kevin for making the new songs available for listening on the website. I must say that although I've enjoyed reading everyone's initial reactions, these posts have left me half afraid of what I might hear when I finally found the time to log on and listen. Regardless of where these songs will eventually fit in the ultimate scheme of things, on a certain level it is just great right now to hear some new Del Amitri. Although the songs at first listen do not necessarily seem like Del Amitri classics, they certainly don't sound as bad as some of the recent posts have suggested. Justin seems to really enjoy hitting the falsetto on just about every song, and that's not necessarily a bad thing (no, I'm not one of the CTBF haters). Bear in mind that Del Amitri is responsible for some of the greatest songs ever recorded, and when you compare their new work to their previous accomplishments, that's a scary formidable yardstick to be measured by. To use an American metaphor, even the greatest homerun hitters don't hit one every time up, sometimes they don't even hit a long ball every time up. Again, based on one listen, I would say that "I'm an Unbeliever" and "You Love Me" sound the most interesting, with "I'm an Unbeliever" giving us the most to chew on. The single to me sounds not great, but not bad. I don't quite get the video - are these dressed up pickles or whatever they are, some sort of beloved characters in Britain that we are not aware of here in the States? Could someone on the list please explain if possible? Anyway, I'll be ordering the singles from Amazon-UK and I guess the album too, since no US release seems imminent. I'm excited to hear the rest of the new songs, and like a recent post, I too would love the chance to buy additional demos. I'd love to see a live dvd with a bonus collection of all the videos, or maybe a complete dvd video collection as a separate item. Some complete live concert cds would be nice too, as long as we're pipedreaming here. The Grateful Dead have set a very cool standard for making their concert recordings available to their fans on cd and dvd at amazingly reasonable prices. Even if Del Amitri's fan base winds up being small compared to today's top chart sellers, I think these fans have a vast hunger for recordings that Del Amitri would be wise to tap into, either with or without the benefit of the mass audience that record companies crave. Before I sign off, one quick not-Del-related happy note - another great band from Scotland, Average White Band is right now recording a long awaited new album with a live dvd also on the verge of release. For anyone who has not heard AWB lately, these guys may be getting old, but they are absolutely at the top of their game when they play live, and they have amassed quite a nice repertiore of great songs over the years that bring in fans of all colors and from all age groups. If you get a chance to see AWB, don't pass on it. One final note - four of my all time favorite music artists come from Scotland: Del Amitri (#1, of course), Texas, Dougie MacLean, and AWB. A coincidence?, I don't know, but I don't think so.
