As much as I love The Dels, dare I suggest infinitely better artist and far better managed?? Costello never disappers off the scene, the new Dels album is their first for 5 (?) years (unless you count the DCHTS, CTBF/Greatest Hits spell). Elvis has released 3 albums, soundtracks, appeared in media everywhere. The publicity for his new album, When I Was Cruel, has been rolling for several weeks and it's still over 2 months away. His management have arranged a whole series of tv shows, media interviews. Does anyone doubt Dels lag well behind that?? EC's new album is fantastic too, a return to his rocking best. I heard him perform most of the songs live or hear samples. Buy this too, you won't be disappointed. If you you hold a pre-conceived negative view of him but have never seen him perform, go and see him on his upcoming tour. His presence is immense, his vocal work gets better and better. You'll soon change your mind. Still charts highly after 26 years, says it all. He is a genius. That's a GREAT story, Libby! Heck, it brightened my day and I'm not even going to get to do any of this tour. :-( Anyway, sorry to hear about the laryngitis. As I recall, you were sick when I came over in December, so I didn't get to meet you, unfortunately. Best get your rest and get healthy for the tour. It sounds like you'll be doing a bit of travelling. :-) have a great weekend, debbie - --- Libby Graham wrote: > Having finally having confirmation about all the > tickets I need to by for > the tour I stated ringing Box Offices and booking > tikets - I did this with 5 > venues in a 15 minute period (quite good considering > I have laryngitis and > my voice is a mere whisper). > > Then low and behold I get a call from a nice woman > (with a nice Glaswegian > accent) from my credit card company asking me if > unbeknownst to me my card > had been stolen. Video clips showing people half-killing themselves while riding bikes, skating, etc. as Roll To Me played! This was on ABC Family Network. Maybe this "timely" taste of Del Amitri will make people ask, "I wonder what ever happened to those guys?" And hopefully those people will _miraculously_ hear about the new album and go out and buy it! Sound about right? Anyone have any information that would either confirm or deny my theory?<< Well, having played a lot of country songs on the radio in my time, I KNOW that Mercury is still alive in the US - but the Mercury I now know is based in Nashville and controls Terri Clark, Shania Twain and Mark Wills. I remember the Mercury heyday with guys like John Mellancamp making them a LOT of money. As for Suzanne Vega (LOVE HER!) and A&M, weren't they swallowed in the Segrams merger with Universal who bought out Virgin who swallowed A&M who swallowed the fly and I don't know why? With mergers and aquisitions all over the place, it's clear that guys like Ralph Nader were right - we are way close to the world's economy being controlled by 5 major conglomerates - but that's another thread altogether. I dunno about you, but I have all but given up looking for a North American Dels release. I'll pony up to the HMV UK website on payday and order my advance copy of the CD now. It'll save me money in the long run - I was the stoop, ermm, collector who payed $50 CAD for the import Hatful/Abbey package. But then, for Justin, any amount is worth it! He's STILL not single, huh? Too bad. Wide awake in Dreamland . . . Kristy in Canada P.S. - SALE AND PELLETIER ROCK! TAKE THAT CORRUPT IOC MEMBERS! HAH! REMEMBER, ROSS ONLY INHALED - HE DIDN'T SMOKE!! MAYBE THE ISU JUDGE CAN'T SAY THE SAME THING! Tirade over. Back to regularily scheduled programming. : ) ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V4 #40 *********************************
