Is it Valentine's Day tomorrow? Well Eddie won't be getting a card from me! I'd completely lost track of the date. I've had more important things on my mind this week - like how to get Del Amitri tickets and how to stop myself murdering my kids (who are on half term). As soon as you started talking about broken heart songs, I thought immediately of our dear Dels. I think that's why I identify with their music so much. I always sort of figured myself to be the "Queen of Unrequited Love and Love Gone Awry." Yep, a good ol' dose of the Dels will fit the bill nicely. I think it's time to get that tribute CD loaded in the CD changer in the car...now! er...Happy(?) Valentine's Day, debbie P.S. hmm...I don't know why people say the nice guys don't get the girls. I only want nice guys, unlike one (ex) friend who dates nothing but bums. She only dates/marries jerks, I don't go out much because I refuse to spend time with jerks! Is there an actual website for Mercury Records? I'm curious because I can't find one. No big surprise, since it doesn't even exist in the US anymore. But I even searched for a UK website to no avail. I did hear that Steve Lilliwhite (producer, U2, Dave Matthews, etc) is now the head of Mercury UK and that he was going to be "meeting with artists" over the coming weeks because he wants to trim the roster so he can "have room for some people he'd like to sign". A why is it that you can check out an entire song from Elvis Costello's upcoming album but you can't hear a song from the new Del Amitri record? Both artists' labels fall under the umbrella of Island/Def Jam/Cream Of Wheat/Nike and Del Amitri's record beats Costello to the stores by several weeks (in the UK at least, we still have seen no sign of a US Del release!). I am starting to get REALLY TICKED OFF about this continuing US snub. I'm sure the band wants the record out here, and I'm sure they want to tour here. So who do we call? Whose in box can we clog with email? Whose office can we storm into, leap upon the desk and cry out at the top of our lungs, "GIVE US OUR DAMNED DEL AMITRI YOU CORPORATE WEASEL!" What can we do and is there any way to blame the French? ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH. Dave PS - apologies to any Francophiles out there, I remind you I am on medication ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 22:47:29 -0500 (EST) From: Michael Mitchell Subject: Re: OV: Where is Mercury Records? > I am starting to get REALLY TICKED OFF about this continuing US snub. Why would a record acompany blow off the largest market on the planet? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 22:16:54 -0600 From: Leah D Schenkenberg Subject: Re: OV: The fight against V-Day last year, I actually went out and sprinkled hearts on the steps of a stone church on valentines (small town...what else is there to do...) This year, I'm going out with my mom, her best friend, and my imaginary boyfriend (I picked him out of a JC Penney catalog; his name is Tommy). A friend in IA is going to go see the same movie as well, making it a long distance dutch date that my mother is apparently chaperoning...as I two time between someone real, but absent, and someone present but imaginary. Despite all that exciting action, I'll probably still go buy some confetti hearts. So what's the best DA album for V day? I'd go with Change Everything, a little "be my downfall", a little "just like a man", a little "always the last to know", a little "as soon as the tide comes in", a little "behind the fool"...Really, what else could exemplify Valentines better?
