I agree totally we should be more than 1 point ahead of you but we were playing catch up while a new team was built and we made some bizarre decisions ...... don't forget it wasn't that long ago we were 12 places and several points behind you. I'm still getting used to us being a money rich club - before Sam Hamman My Lord, the most we'd ever spent was #180k and that was 22 years ago!! But it's not what you spend, it's how you spend it. Some of the fees are a bit OTT but we've got the right player for this club. I'm glad you're getting your 2 Premier players back but if you're saying your side is about 2 mne, then you'll need all the luck you can get. Cardiff have been without Peter Thorne, our record signing and key striker, for all bar a couple of weeks of the last 3 months - Earnie, the best striker in the division, has missed half a season too. Our first choice left back has been out since early August and our centre-half has missed half the season. The squad covers for all of those losses though. So ... we either get auto-promotion or we get to the play-offs in our home town with 50,000-60,000 Cardiff and susbstantially fewer away fans ... oh, it's so hard to choose! :>) All in jest Tony, both clubs are having good seasons, let's enjoy the rest of it and think how much less fun we've have without banter and rivalry - I feel sorry for those who don't have, or get, the passion that comes with being a football fan or other sports. I'm just trying to sober up fro me my first glorious 4 day w/e in the last six months so I can go chauffeur my parents to Christmas dinner at my brother and sister-in-law's . No need to ask what the menu is- I'm sure it will be dry tortured bits of turkey in gravy, Durkee's green bean casserole, mashed sweet potatoes with those burnt marshmallows on top, and a 'wild card' boiled-to-death veggie of some sort. All followed by carrot cake or maybe (gasp!) a sinful Red Velvet. There's one thing about my family-they're consistent. They're my peeps though, so I do my duty and show up. I'm sure in one of the many lulls in conversation, someone will bring up the year I tried to break the monotony of our family Christmases and prepared the entire dinner myself. Julia Child would have been proud. Roast goose w/chestnuts, pumpkin soup, wild rice, steamed greens, homemade bread, etc., etc. Everything went great until it was time for the grand unveiling of the plum pudding. The zabione and the hard sauce were ready to go in beautiful silver serving bowls. My grandmother's serving dish was ready on the counter. Then the 2 fatal errors occurred. Firstly, being a penniless 20-something, I had made do with an old bundt pan instead of a pudding mold so the pudding just kind of plopped shapelessly onto the platter. No problem, I thought, I'll just sort of reshape it, torch the thing and no one will know the difference. Now comes the biggy. Being mostly a beer drinker, I had no idea you had to use 151 to get it to light. A good dousing, light the match. Damn. Must not have put enough on it. Pour on a little more. Shit. And a little more. Double damn. By the time I got the thing to the table, it resembled a smoldering cow patty with a couple of crispy holly leaves sticking out of it and was soaking/floating in most of a bottle of the good Cap'n Morgan. It tasted great, though. Of course, the only thing anyone remembers about that night is the notorious plum pudding. My nephews and niece remember it especially, as it was the first time they got drunk! Now that they're all a bunch of chain-smoking lushes, guess who gets the blame!! At least I get credit for SOMETHING. Like the subject of any good 'fish story', the thing has grown to epic proportions-the last time my nephew Josh told it the thing was eight feet long and floating in a keg of whiskey! Not sure this story has a moral, most things I come in contact with don't. But at least I was able to break the spell of boredom over Lucas world for that one night. I've learned my lesson, though. Nowadays, I just show up with the cranberry relish and a smile on my face and attempt to steer the conversation away from politics, religion, and any sentences involving my name in association with the words 'free spirit' or 'love life'. Just file me under Dotty Aunt. If only they knew. I hope everyone on the list is having a wonderful holiday and are using this what feels like a lull before storms on many levels and fronts to gather strength and rejuvenate. And if you don't think you have anything to be glad about, just be happy I didn't leave this long rambling message about nothing on your answering machine!!!
