Jim - this is exactly what I said when Kev told me. Most bands release a single a couple of months before the album so that generates interest and gets the name back in people's heads so that people rush out in the first week to buy the album and get the all important chart position. I think Mercury are just going through the motions. If only the band could ditch them and go independent - but they need the promotional budget and touring advance which a big company can afford I suppose. Jane > Erm call me stupid if you want but I have just noticed the new album is to > come out before the single. Is this not a bit daft as this will mean ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 12:11:12 -0500 From: "William Kates" Subject: OV: John Mayer If the prospect of big label gloss is troublesome, seek out the original version of Room For Squares on the Aware label. It's got full instrumentation and excellent production and has all the polish it probably needs. For the Sony release they remixed most of the songs in attempt to try to increase the commercial appeal (unneccesarily) and they added a track, but the original version sounds just great and you can probably still find it on eBay. However, you should know that the first copies of the Sony version contained a bonus disc of John doing a live Stevie Ray/Hendrix guitar tribute, which combined with the ultra low introductory list price (I saw it on sale at Circuit City when first released at $6.99), makes somewhat of a case for getting both versions. Josh Neas Wrote: I love John Mayer! I first saw him when he opened for Glen Phillips (formerly of Toad the Wet Sprocket) on a tour he did. He's an amazing live performer and I've seen him twice now. He's just a really funny, very talented guy. However, I have his prior release (_Inside Wants Out_) and it's a very sparse, acoustic album for the most part. The production on the new record jars me a bit. I haven't bought it yet cos I'm still a bit hesitant. The songwriting is brillian, I just don't care for some of the instrumentation. I need to give it another shot though. Just cos I'm used to something different I suppose. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 09:59:41 -0800 (PST) From: Alison Bellach Subject: OV: ho ho ho! http://www.delamitri.com :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 18:26:16 -0000 From: hilary_gray@sandwich.pfizer.com Subject: OV: RE: Celebrity Christmas It sounds like a diary entry set to music :o) Hilary - -----Original Message----- From: Jane Armstrong [mailto:janea@delamitri.co.uk] Sent: 19 December 2001 17:07 To: Dels Subject: OV: Celebrity Christmas Oh dear - I bet now we're going to have to explain who all these people mentioned in the song!! Hey Not exactly a top five of albums ever or even of 2001 but its I'm listening to at the moment so here goes, Seafood- When do we start fighting: didn't think i'd like this one their name put me off to be honest :/ but a great album and would highly recommend it. Third Eye Blind- not sure what the name of the album is but its the one with motorcycle driveby on it if anyones familiar. I love it. Jimmy Eat World- Bleed America: can't get enough of this one excellent a really good mixture of fast and slow songs. At the Drive In- In Casino/Out: Have got all the albums by this band and they've recently split up so thank god! Their lyrics are the kind that make no sense until u've listened to them a few times - 'if the ship was built in bottled sand'. Bit of a heavy band and hard to get into but once you're in you'll never want to come out! The Strokes- Is this it. I know about all the hype but I saw them at Gig on the Green in Glasgow and loved them. A great album nothing cheers me up the way they do except maybe The Ramones but then they do kind of sound alike. I could say so many more but thats my five up cheers Lindsay _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2001 09:26:57 +1100 From: Nick_Short@au.intramedgroup.com Subject: Re: OV: RE: Re: Celebrity Christmas 5.0.8 |June 18, 2001) at 12/20/2001 09:27:07 AM MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org Precedence: bulk I hear the sound of some happy lawyers in the air, Somebody should also, just for a laugh, put the idea to him of 'Celebrity Valentines Day' Or maybe I'm just that starved of Del material. Flash! Flash! Check out the website www.wncw.org and cast a vote in their Top 100 of 2001 contest. This is the station where I first heard a Del Amitri 'deep cut' and also where I first heard Eileen Rose. Many now very famous artists were played here months or even years before commercial radio 'broke' them, including Cheryl Crow, Matchbox 20, Sarah McLachlan, the Wallflowers, the Jayhawks, Lucinda Williams, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Ben Folds, Ryan Adams, Bonnie Raitt- the list goes on and on and on. They're available live via the internet and although they're a little heavy on the Americana (insert large finger down throat here) format, they're still better than 99% of what's on the airwaves. WNCW is located in the tiny-opolis of Spindale, NC yet won the Gavin AAA/Americana Station of the Year a couple of years back! Conveniently located to both I-85 and I-26, the station has hosted many midafternoon drive-by in studio sessions by bands on their way to gigs in the area. With either 5 or 6 translators in place, plus internet feed, the station covers a huge audience- from Greenville, SC to Asheville/Knoxville to Charlotte to Winston-Salem to points beyond. Local artists even have a chance at this station and are played in regular rotation. The listeners are people with discriminating taste in music and also with bucks to spend- which if I were DA's promoter I'd be paying very much attention to courting this market as sort of a test market for the populace-at-large. You too, Eileen! Deadline for the vote is Friday, December 21 with the grand prize being the entire Top 100 CD's.There are no geographic restrictions on entering, so you Aussies should go for it! My Top 10 is as follows (not to be confused with what's actually in my player at the moment). 1. Eileen Rose Shine Like It Does 2. Gillian Welch Time (The Revelator) 3. Grant-Lee Phillips Mobilize 4. Boz Scaggs Dig 5. Kirsty MacColl Tropical Brainstorm 6. Pat Haney Ghost of Things to Come 7. Neil Finn One Nil 8. Dr. John Creole Moon 9. Rice, Rice, Hillman, Pederson Running Wild 10. Donna The Buffalo Live From the American Ballroom Top Bluegrass pick: Blue Highway Top Celtic pick: Old Blind Dog I don't even own the last five on my list- haven't gotten around to purchasing them yet! As someone else on the list said, it's been a really dry year for music and it was hard to come up with more than five really good picks. I'm not even sure if the Neil Finn came out this year or last. Does anyone know? Vote! Vote! Vote!! This really could make a difference in how future releases by people we all know and love are perceived!! This is the station where I first heard a Del >Amitri Spindale rocks. I have good friends that dj there. I almost did overnight djing there this past summer, but schedules forced me otherwise. As for the Americana (heh), that's why I love Spindale. Alt-country/Americana is definitely one of my very favourite genres of music and there's nothing like getting to hear that kind of stuff on a great radio station like NCW. They also play Glen Phillips! Yay! :) josh. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2001 09:16:24 -0000 From: Hopping James W Subject: OV: RE: Celebrity Christmas Unfortunately I can't get to hear it because my PC doesn't have anykind of sound card.
