Hello fellow Del-er's! I always love seeing what we're all listening to! Here's mine: 1) Creed - Weathered - Their new album and I think it is absolutely marvelous! Signs, My Sacrifice, and Don't Stop Dancing are my favorites right now. 2) Live - V - Another great CD although I don't think it is Live's best work. 3) The Eclectic Mix - I have, in the past year or two, been really getting into Spanish/Latin music and this is a mix that contains mostly that kind of music (Cristian Castro - Azul and Lloviendo Estrellas, which are both fabulous songs; Chayanne, Paulina Rubio, OV7, and Thalia). However, for it's eclectic-ness, there's "Falling for the First Time" by Barenaked Ladies, Only in America by Brooks & Dunn, and a live version of Superstitious by Stevie Wonder. ;) 4) The mostly SOSP-and-after Del Amitri b-side mix. I think I called it "SOSP Plus". It contains: 1) Before the Evening Steals the Afternoon 2) Sleep Instead of Teardrops 3) Spare Pair of Laces 4) Grimace Not a Smile 5) Low Friends in High Places 6) Don't Come Home Too Soon 7) Three Little Words 8) Paper Thin 9) Cry to Be Found 10) Canned Laughter 11) One Step at a Time 12) A Better Man 13) Angel on the Roof 14) Whiskey Remorse 15) Learn to Cry (alt. version) 5) Train - Drops of Jupiter. Fabulous. 6) Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - I don't recall the album title, but it's the one that has "Blue on Black" on it. It's not his most recent (that one was "Live On") but it the one before it. Any chance of me seeing it? When's it on, what channel, etc.? Repeats of the Fast Show are shown on the satellite channel PlayUK on Thursday nights, at 22:15 and again at 00:25. I never really liked the series (sorry Mr Cummings!) so I have no idea what series is showing. Never knew the Dels had made a guest appearence, so I might have to start looking out for that! I'm only getting 10 channels and 4 of them are the same and also BBC1 & BBC2 are repeated as channels 9 & 10. Basically, I'm getting 5 channels, and too many of them seem to have American shows on. I can get that at home, darn it! LOL debbie - --- MinervAthene@aol.com wrote: > >Hey, now that I'm in the UK for another week, > what's > the name of the show he writes? Any chance of me > seeing it? For a start, that you all seem to have CD players that hold a lot of discs - I have to content myself with swapping between the ones in the little pile beside me (as I'm too lazy to go fetch any different ones!! :o) ) Do I dare reveal my taste in music?! It's been so long since I bought anything new, but have a chuckle if you like... (1) Even Lousier With Love Ahem. I guess I'm one of the people that ended up with a copy of this - and it's great! Thanks Taire! (2) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon / Gladiator soundtracks I like film music. The former is mainly cello music, the second more full orchestral, and both are very atmospheric and great to have on in the background. (3) Velvet Goldmine soundtrack A very different kind of film music! The film was... strange?... and set in the era of glam rock, Bowie and Iggy Pop. This is a compilation of covers, original 70s stuff and Bowie-esque recordings for the film (as David Bowie refused to have anything to do with it!). Good happy music. (4) Travis: The Invisible Band and The Man Who Possibly my second favourite Scottish band? I can't decide which of these CDs I prefer, but they're great for singing along to :o) (5) Radiohead: Kid A I love both The Bends and OK Computer, but I haven't quite come all the way round to loving Amnesiac yet. In between was this - and it reminds me of seeing it played live, which is the best thing in it's favour! Seriously, though, it's probably an acquired taste, but apart from a few tracks it's great. That's five, though there are others from time to time... And just 'cos it's Christmas, I'll embarrass my dad by telling you that HIS CD player currently has Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin and, um, Eric Clapton!! lol :o) Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2001 15:02:15 -0500 From: "Reid and Susan Gardner" Subject: OV: Re: What's in your - ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Wartik" To: Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2001 9:34 AM Subject: OV: What's in your CD player right now? > > 6) Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - I don't recall the album title, but it's the > one that has "Blue on Black" on it. We mostly wanted to see Jimmie Vaughan (Stevie's brother and a really eclectic guitarist) and Steve Cropper with Booker T. & the MGS (green onions, anyone old enough to remember?!?) ... we saw Kenny Wayne there too. Had this red suit on, and with that long blonde hair he cut quite a figure. He'd just come out with an album & when he took the stage with his band he really looked nervous, poor kid! He stood really still to play all his solos, but even with the onstage nervousness you could tell he had a lot of potential - he was terrific. TTFN Susan who really wishes she could see some LIVE GUITAR soon, hint hint Iain if you're reading... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2001 20:45:28 -0000 From: "Mike Hancock" Subject: OV: RE: Re: No Dels Content - A question for Brit OVers. It's fun to see all our different tastes. 1. Fat Boy Slim - Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars 2. The Beta Band - The Three E.P.s 3. Res - How I Do 4. Texas - Greatest Hits 5A. Robbie - Sing When You're Winning 5B. Robbie - Swing When You're Winning BTW, I've heard that Travis and the Doves will be touring together in the U.K. Go to the show! I've seen both bands here twice (separately, and granted, in small venues) and they put on great, energetic performances (yes, Dougie's adorable and steals the show as far as I'm concerned...). I especially enjoyed the Doves for their candor--toward the end of the show, rather than pretend they were finished playing and make us stand there clapping for the "encore," the lead singer said, "Sit tight--we're going for a cigarette break and will be back in a few minutes." Tom Lehrer/In concert - Harvard University Professor turned satirist. It maybe nearly 40 years old but alot of the humour is still relevant (and twisted) today. The Pretenders/Isle of View - I'd love Chrissie and the Dels to do some kind of collaboration. Rod Stewart/Unplugged and Seated - Look, don't laugh ok! Supernaturals/It Doesn't Matter Anymore - They've never quite achieved superstar status like I think they should have but this is still a great album full of fantastic tongue in cheek lyrics. - -----Original Message----- From: doug brown [mailto:douge_brown@yahoo.com] Sent: 15 December 2001 18:20 To: oppositeview@smoe.org Subject: OV: What's in your CD player right now? We need to do this every couple of months because like good underwear, you just get too many favorites after awhile! So my 5: World Party/Goodbye Jumbo - Kind of randomly grabbed this oldie and forgot how good it was. Always good to spring new things on the Brit, reminds Leigh of Traveling Wilburys. Third Eye Blind/Third Eye Blind - If you don't have this CD why not? It's place in music history becomes more obvious every day, and it has like 5 number one US singles. Oasis/What's The Story... - Yeah yeah I have 2 Oasis CDs the other is the B-sides collection, always curious about idiot savants. Reminds Leigh of home hehe. REM/Reveal - Maybe their best ever, wonderful. Melissa Etheridge/Skin - Her recent semi-autobiographical "I got lesbian dumped" CD. I like it more and more with every listen, very nice. Melissa has one of those funny live/studio dichotomys. She completely kicks ass live and is one of the most energetic performers I've ever seen, but this CD is a lot of acoustic introspection. Keller" Subject: OV: Back-to-back genious Hi guys. I normally don't post as I don't have the knowledge of Del Amitri like you have. After spending the last few months confining my music to my long term loves, Queen, Led Zeplin and Hendrix, I played all 6 of my Del Amitri albums over the weekend. When you were young / surface of the moon are the best back-to-back songs I've heard to come out of the 90's. Brilliant lyrics, but the way the vocals, piano, lead, bass and drums come together is fantastic. Really moving. The rest of the album does not fall away. Quite clearly the best Dels album, and probably in my top 3 albums post 1990. I'm one of those all-or-nothing guys: when I like an artist or band, I have to have every (or most) album(s) they produced. It's funny that post 1990, this is only true of del Amitri for me. I always judge bands on how they perform live - thats why I no longer listen to the like of stereophonics, U2 and others who simply have not impressed me. The only artists to impress me live post 1990 are Guns'n'roses, Brian Adams, and Del Amitri. The only thing to worry me is that, in my opinion, none of the subsequent dels albums matched change everything, and their form showed a real dip with Suckers. Regardless of whether their latest album is fabulous, I'll always try to get to as many concerts as possible, because, for me, they've past the hardest test of all. They're quite brilliant live.
