"Brown eyed Girl" is, uh...well....interesting. I've also heard them do a killer version of "Summer in the City" which rocked much harder than the original. Back o my neck gettin dirty and gritty?? Or was it girty and ditty? Mmm, I've been in front of the easel too long today... I'm absolutely smitten with the cover of "Come Together" that the band slips into a live performance now and then. I never liked the song until I heard Justin sing it. I have been a great fan of Del Amitri ever since 1992, when I got a copy of change everything, just before going to Paris, for a semester of school. Since then, I have seen Del Amitri 3 or 4 times live, in Southern California. I am currently in the process of ripping all of my del amitri cds into mp3 format. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a file sharing "session". I use KaZaa quite frequently. If we could establish a time, we could join something like KaZaa or Gnuttella at that time, or better yet, we could pick a day and leave our machines connected allowing for sharing of our collections. I am missing a large number of songs that I have searched for for a long time with no luck. Perhaps this is old hat to many of you... maybe you already do some form of file sharing? anyway, I am happy to be a member of this message board and look forward to your feedback... While Rhino mines and reissues his back catalog, Elvis Costello is not resting on his laurels. The artist has scheduled a performance Nov. 7 at New York's Beacon Theatre with the Charles Mingus Orchestra. Together they will perform Mingus compositions, some with brand new lyrics, as well as arrangements of songs from Costello's extensive songbook. The acts performed two shows together late last month on the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) campus, where Costello is the first Artist in Residence for the school's performing arts program, UCLA Live. In his role, Costello is curating a season of events and programs, with three more events in development that are due to take place in the coming months. Tickets for the New York performance -- ranging from $35 to $100 -- go on sale Saturday (Oct. 13) at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. There is an eight ticket limit per person. We're quite a friendly bunch, and always love meeting new people. I think most of us here have managed to more or less complete our collections of MP3's of B Sides and also have quite a bit of live stuff - but we have one resident expert who has put them all together and is currently sharing all sorts with everyone. You should have a look at Dirk Wonhvfer's site at www.delamitri.de - where you can find a weekly gem to download. Dirk has worked tirelessly, and selflessly to provide a great service, and we're all very grateful to him. (Just thought I should get that in - I've thanked him privately, but wanted to thank him on-list). He has also set up a Del Amitri sharing group at Audiogalaxy - www.audiogalaxy.com - to join you should search on his nickname Arathas. As he's logged on pretty much 24/7 you should find all his MP3's available to download at a time suitable for you. I've also got much of the same stuff available there too (but I've not converted so many of my live recordings to MP3) - look for janea57 - and am also logged on much of the time. But if there is anything in particular you'd like, just ask the list and someone will send you it. Any volunteers for testing out there? I've remastered another song yesterday, "Waking up" from the St. Pats gig. It's quality is a bit better than the one I posted yesterday, and anyone who couldn't manage to download from yesterdays link (there has been some complaints) should be able to download today's song, it is here: http://www.delamitri.de/OV/ The last file in this directory is "Waking up (St. Pats, 99).mp3" and you can easily download it when you click on it with your right mouse button and choose "Save as". I will experiment with this song some more, and maybe I'll post an other, better remastered version some time. And I'll try to improve "Everybody knows that it's you" and post this tomorrow. :-) yours, Dirk ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V3 #252 **********************************
