First of all, I find the first verse of FFS scary in how relevant it is. But also, I feel that the song really touches on a lot of stuff surrounding this tragedy, most notably Jerry Falwell being an idiot, the media tending towards sensationalism (see this article: http://www.msnbc.com/news/627959.asp), etc. As for SMSTC, this is sort of along the same lines. Argh. I wish that Justin and Iain weren't always as on-target; sometimes it all makes me think of this quote: "The question is not what is G-d's role in all this, or where is G-d, but where is humanity?" :\ I hope you all are well. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 21:25:29 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Michael?= Subject: Re: OV: lump to throat I teach a class of pre-school to Year 3 children in a remote country school in South West Queensland (Australia). We have made a point of speaking to the children about what happened as regualrly as possible, not to try and sensationalise, but to allow them to vent any feelings they may have. We had a regular email exchange with a school in Chicago up until the American summer. Just yesterday, in a child's complete innocence, one of my first graders came to me and asked if Chicago was in the WTC. When I asked her why she replied "Because if it was we would have to send our emails to them in heaven". My eldest Alex, hasn't been showing too much interest, just asked a few questions and then thrown a wobbler because I wouldn't let him switch to Fox Kids. But Nicky, my youngest has been watching with me, and asking about what was going on, and seemed quite moved by it. This is extremely surprising, as he's autistic and doesn't normally pay any concern to things which don't immediately affect him and then is emotionally detached. But they both told me about the three minutes' silence at school (a heck of a long time if you're hyperactive like Alex!). Incidentally, I mentioned my friend's sister the teacher, who had 8 children still waiting at the end of the day. There is a happy ending here. All 8 were collected eventually - four or five hours late - but their parents are all safe and accounted for. So there was a happy ending. I haven't even been able to read this to my co-workers 'cause this has choked me up! Things like this really make me wish I'd met Mr. Right and had a slew of kids to hug. > > Ah bless! I'd been wondering about those kids, Jane, and am so relieved that they're ok and that their families are ok.
