Its amazing what goes through your mind when all is silent. I personally tried putting myself in the shoes of those wondering NYC looking and hoping for news of their missing loved ones. fact that, due no fault of their own their lives will be changed forever. I also thought about those who perished in it all, those making last phone calls to loved ones - that is just so unimaginable to bear. How can you say your goodbyes without that kiss and embrace that you are used to when saying goodbye? So I sit here now, and my heart and thoughts go out to all - 3 minutes is no time at all when people are caught in the moment of hell that will be with them for evey minute of the rest of their lives. - -- Kevin Cawthorne Webmaster The Official Del Amitri Website (UK) www.delamitri.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 11:13:18 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: Re: OV: Re: CYDMG? WTFWIK? I agree with Nigel and Michael about the album title. I think it's terrible! Justin took a whole year to come up with this! As I've said before, it sounds like a gangsta rap title. Though it can be interpreted in various different ways, my first reaction was that it was a sexual come on. I can't wait to hear the reasoning behind the choice. But I DON'T think they consider this to be a final album. The three band members I've spoken with about it are very excited about it - though pretty cheesed off with all the delays. It's worked to Iain's advantage not to have a September release obviously! But he said he couldn't wait until January to get out and promote it - and away from the sleepless nights - however that was *before* little Louis was actually born :-)) Jane ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 11:43:19 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Re: The UK mourns with you > This morning at 11AM GMT, the UK halted for 3 minutes silence is respect of > the dead, missing and missed from Tuesday's horror. In fact 84 countries across Europe and other parts of the world stood still for these three minutes. I still have tears streaming down my face. There is a service at St Paul's Cathedral at noon to be attended by the Queen, Parliament ministers and US Ambassadorial staff today too. About 30,000 people are already waiting outside. And it's not just America who is mourning their loss - at least 500 Britons were there and are unaccounted for. I don't know about people from other nations - it was the WORLD Trade Centre after all. And I'm weeping for my friend on the Clapton list, whose husband's body has now been recovered, and for all those who will never find their own loved ones. And the brave fire-fighters who gave their lives. And for my friend's adopted sister who is a New York teacher who had 8 children who weren't collected from school on Tuesday. And for what will come. The British Prime Minister has said he will stand shoulder to shoulder with the United States and will back and aid George W in whatever he does. I pray that he doesn't over-react before we know for certain who is responsible and that more innocent lives aren't taken. But I fear he will. And we'll follow suit. And because of our declared support, we are also a prime target. We've lived with fear of terrorist action in Britain for 30 years now. I know it's not on the same scale - but Britain has been subjected to attacks over the years. I was just yards away from the London Hilton when it was bombed by the IRA in 1975 - and had to go back to Selfridges where I worked, and search the store when we had bomb warnings that afternoon. Two months after I left, the store was itself bombed. So we can understand the fear you are feeling. We currently have over 90 compatriots missing, 3 confirmed dead. It is all just so close to home. I work in an isolated rural community. One of my colleagues has a son who works in the financial district of New York and was there with him last year. She checked her travel diary to discover that on the 11th of Septemeber last year her son had taken her to a restaurant at the top of the WTC to celebrate her birthday. There is no peace loving person on the face of this planet who is not shocked and deeply mourning the sacrifice of all the innocent in this disaster. To all in the US, particularly those directly connected to this tradgedy, we are with you in spirit, praying and hoping that your loved ones return to you ASAP. My youngest was born the night the Gulf War started, within 15 minutes of the first bomb drop on Baghdad. The doctors and midwives were torn between delivering the baby and watching the news on telly. To be honest, so was I, but I chose the only place to be ... at the talking end of the bed! A very surreal experience. My eldest was born on Guy Fawkes (bonfire) night. Always easy to remember their birthdates and I suspect it'll always be that way for Iain too. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 23:37:03 +0100 From: "joe brady" Subject: OV: Watching the Wheels.... If it is their last hurrah, I suppose i couldn't blame them (even though I would be tempted to...lol) we all need change at some point, but all I know is that I would cry, silly as it may sound & it would be alot of crying not just a few tears. Most of you have been lucky enough to be with the dels from the begining, I only found out about them a little over five years ago & spent most of that time thinking I was just one of a few that appreciated their music. I have never even seen them in concert, except for a 40 min. performance in a record store in 95' which I still thank my lucky stars for. I hate even saying this because I have always disliked the idea of fans thinking it is the band's job to make them happy when that is not at all fair, I suppose all I am saying is that I would be sad just like everyone else. I have associated the dels songs so much with what has happened at different times in my life that they hold a lot of sentimental value to them. If it is after all their last cheap shot at the dream (not cheap at all) I say all the best to them & know that I will never stop listening to what they have left. - -Anjule P.S. As much as I hate to think of the idea of war, there is no question that something must be done. My son is now 16 years old and though he can't be drafted until 18, we all know how long wars can drag on. That fact scares me to death. Whether there ends up being a war or not, there will be innocent lives lost. When countries harbor terrorists, they are putting their own people in harms way, and it is unfortunate that innocent people's lives (citizens of these countries who do not support the terror) will no doubt be lost because of it, not to mention those of our own people, not only in war but as is already happening as we see all the rescue workers who have lost their lives for this cause. I don't really see how George W. can "over" react to this. Thousands of innocent lives were lost here as a result of this act of terrorism. From what I understand, all the identities of the hijackers is known at this time and there does not seem to be much question about who is behind it. There is no way that more innocent people won't lose their lives. The trick is going to be how to keep it as minimal as possible and still accomplish the goal. One scary part is all the people connected with these hijackers, who helped them pull this off, that they are now finding who are living right here among us! It looks now as though they have had this all in the works for as much as 3-5 years. Isn't it scary to think how someone back in '97 or so could have been living all this time with a mindset of, "I'm training now to commit an act of terrorism against thousands of innocent people and then commit suicide in five years from now"? I can't imagine. Cindy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 21:29:55 EDT From: Moer4472@aol.com Subject: Re: OV: Re: The UK mourns with you Wow. I haven't said anything about this yet, just reading the good thoughts of everyone. I agree something MUST be done, if it is a long war, I hate to say it, but, so be it!! Yes, people all over the world are affected by terrorism every day, and we shouldn't have thought we were immune to it, and I don't want to sound like Americans are more ..... important than others, but this is unnacceptable.
