I'll be there!! Their appearence tomorrow is a part of a free open air music festival put on every year in front of the City Hall here. The civic centre is also transformed into a fairground with over 200 rides brought in for the weekend. Friday is Welsh bands nights which featured Mike Peters of The Alarm and Gorki's Zygotic Mynki (who are excellent) and well as some up and coming groups. I'm going in shortly to see the boy/girls band showcase (my youngest daughter is making me!!) but Feeder headline this pm who are always worth seeing. Tonight, it's time to get those baggy jeans out of the closet as another re-formed group, EMF, are playing. Tomorrow it's world music day with groups from around the globe with Deacon Blue representing Britain to conclude it all. Looking forward to it, it will be the 2nd free gig they've played here in less than 3 months as they also appeared at a special concert/event that took place the night before the F.A. Cup Final. Only trouble is, the weather is appalling this weekend, just had an hour of thunder and lightning and heavy rainfall last night and today with not much improvement forecast in the next 24 hours. I generally think that this is the best way to introduce someone to the band: either make 'em a mixed tape (not as good), or buy 'em a cd in a bargain bin! :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2001 22:25:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Debbie Cushing Subject: Re: OV: Re: Deacon Blue - --- NIGELBLUES@aol.com wrote: > I'll be there!! > > Their appearence tomorrow is a part of a free open > air music festival put on > every year in front of the City Hall here. I think > we need Wet Wet Wet! LOL...not likely, though, as I think the other guys took it pretty badly when Marti left the band to do his own solo stuff... Don't worry - I like early Genesis myself, though I haven't listened to them much recently. I was/am also a huge ELP and Yes fan. Sad, I know. And I don't have a long beard either. A real punk fest of a band. Eileen Rose went down pretty well at Guildford - though there weren't that many people around the stage for her performance. The main body of her support seemed to come from Libby, Andrew, my husband Eddie and my two kids and Jude and Joe Price (Mark's wife and son). They seemed pleased to see us - though Libby says it was more likely "Oh no, not those internet stalkers again!" Jude told me afterwards that Joe, who was roadying for Mark, came up to her and said "Someone shouted out Dad's name" - I think he was impressed someone knew who Mark was - and Jude said she laughed and told him "I bet that's Jane". Oops - guilty as charged. Didn't get to talk to the Delboys apart from a few snatched comments across the barrier. Jude invited me backstage, but I was more interested in getting something to eat and finding a good place to park my wheelchair so I could watch James. (I never thought I'd turn down an invite to go back!!) It wasn't the best performance we've seen them done. Eileen's manager, Dom, came over to chat before the gig and said that they were all really nervous, and it sort of showed. Iain was fighting the tuning of his pedal steel again, and there were a few bum notes played/sung. (For those of you who are interested in that sort of thing - and I know a few of us are, Hilary - Iain was wearing a very smart black suit and white cowboy hat and was sporting a few days' beard growth. Mark had a white patterned shirt and Kris was also wearing a suit.) I'd told Dom earlier in the week that my kids liked Eileen, and they were yelling out to her when she was setting up, so she dedicated "Walk The Jetty" - Nicky's favourite song - to him. He was really pleased (he's 7 next week and autistic - and a big music lover). Anyway, I've always wanted Del Amitri to play Guildford - I've been emailing the organisers for years about it. Well at least yesterday we got to see three of them there - and it makes a change to see them when we're not freezing our proverbials off!
