Sit Down is not my favourite song though. I love Destiny Calling (the lyrics are great, a sideways swipe at the Spice Girls, George Michael et al) and Just like Fred Astaire, I heard them being interviewed on the radio once and the singer (Tim something I think) said that he had never written a straightforward love song and that was his effort. Also shows what you can do with 3 simple guitar chords and a rcording studio!! Sit Down was a big hit when it came out and James were pretty popular. Their Greatest Hits CD always reminds me of when the Dels played City in The Park in Nottingham three years ago. Lori Royal-Gordon, Karen Nesbitt and Jack Poole had flown over the big pond to join us (I think we were a crowd of about 15 OV'ers there that day - maybe more). It was freezing cold, and we were all crushed together for the whole day. They played James' Greatest Hits over the PA in between acts, and we Brits were all singing along - but our North American cousins had never heard them. James' Greatest Hits CD was released very shortly before Singles 89-98 was due out and I remember we talked on OV about the fact that they had a design featuring coloured squares, and how we thought that Singles 89-98 was sort of similar and we weren't so keen. As we now know it was pulled anyway and the Hatful of Rain cover was so much better. Since then, James have released TWO studio albums. And Del Amitri........???? Granted, it's only one song, but it's the song that introduced me to James. Don't be surprised to hear Catatonia are no more shortly. The band hope against hope that Cerys can sort herself out but the strong local rumours are that her nervous exhaustion has a lot more to do with a drink/drugs addiction. Thank God my addiction is just drink. Mind you, after snogging me in the past, there was nowhere left for Cerys to go, was there?? :>) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 11:10:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Alison Bellach Subject: OV: ot: deacon blue sad for me but good for you: deacon blue, cardiff city hall, august 05, 9pm. enjoy in my honor. ::sniff:: (at least they're back together!) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 11:21:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Debbie Cushing Subject: Re: OV: James - --- Jane Armstrong wrote: > Sit Down was a big hit when it came out and James > were pretty popular. > Their Greatest Hits CD always reminds me of when the > Dels played City in The > Park in Nottingham three years ago. Heck, I'm not even caught up on what's popular here, but it's probably crap anyway. Of course, about half of what I'm listening to at the moment are either from or based in the UK (Colin Vearncombe; the Dels, of course; Travis; Eileen Rose; Miles Hunt/The Wonder Stuff, etc.) Are the new James' albums any good? If our Dels aren't going to treat us to new tunes any time soon, we'll have to start finding some from elsewhere in the mantime, right? ;-) have a great weekend, debbie Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! This is my first post to the list while being completely pissed after a night out with work and I thought that I would jsut share them with you (complete with non-edited speling misaktes as I teype! :) First of all is that I really like Genesis! My main genre of music is prog-rock and I love the 71-80 era (A Trick of the Tail which is Phil Collins first ablum as singer is my favourite!) but I also like the other Phil Collins era Genesis albums as well as Peter Gabriel era albums! Am I just really sad ir normal, apart fomr Abacab I think that Genesis can do no wrong! I find a bit of Del Amitri in Genesis because both bands are considered verry un-cool. After hearing an interview with Justin when he said that songs get boring after 2 minutes got me wondering, what is the appeal of prog-rock, to point out that I am 19 years old shows that it is not to do with age and beard length! Anyway I really like a girl at work who is alreadyt taken and is way out of my league anyway, why I'm sharing this with you is completely beyoned my comprehension at this point! But I just felt as if I really needed to say thtat so somebody, alchohol or no alchohol! Anyway, I kind of regret this post already and have a nice weekend!
