I am hoping that as an autumn UK tour looks off the cards now, that the band may consider doing a couple of Christmas gigs as a sort of warm up/test the new material out thing. Well, I can hope can't I? Good news/bad news. The good news is they are actually releasing the new album(!), the bad news being it's not for another 7 months. Hopefully we'll get good news in the form of a UK tour to support the album, bad news being it will probably be in the coldest months for the UK. Libby - hope that conservatory will be heated! But that could be followed nicely with a spring/early summer tour in the US. Is that a good time in the US for bands touring? What's the air fare like for then......? He finished recording his album in April 1999 (I think). The record company decided that was the wrong time to release it. It was then supposed to be coming out in June last year - but they couldn't decide on whether or not to include a certain track - so it was then put back to September. And what record company was it? Mercury! This whole thing sucks!! The band must be well pissed off about it - I know Iain was seriously fed up with the whole thing back in January, when they'd had the actual recording sessions postponed for six months. By the time it comes out a whole *year* after it was finished, they'll probably decide that the songs have evolved since then and they don't like the finished product, or they'll have written some better ones.... and it may get postponed again... And January/February is a dead period. People don't have the money that soon after Christmas to "waste" on CD's. It's too early for an Easter present. Sounds to me like the record company are just going through the motions as they really don't expect it to do much but they have contractual obligations. I'd be interested to hear what Iain and Mark have to say on the matter Kev. Any luck contacting them yet? Oh well - that may well mean they are free to play with Eileen Rose's band at Guildford Festival afterall. To be honest, they think its a better idea, and going by the absence of the Dels, i see their point! No tour either I'm afraid, JPR confirmed that this afternoon, so looks like 2001 is a Del free year Kevin www.delamitri.co.uk - -----Original Message----- From: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org [mailto:owner-oppositeview@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Jane Armstrong Sent: 16 July 2001 22:16 To: Dels Subject: Re: OV: News on the new album/single Something similar happened with Mark Knopfler. Like Libby & Jane, can I cordially invite everyone to a place to kip if the Dels play in this area? It's over 2 yrs since I last met you all, except for Susan & Teresa, great Southern ladies that they are. I, on the other hand, was looking forward to the release in the fall 'cause that's when I'd be in London for the semester which meant this poor American fan could a) get the album at its initial release and b) possibly see them live for the first time. Ah, well. C'est la vie. Er, I still want a Dels-fan get together with me while I'm there. :) josh. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 08:45:37 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: Re: OV: News on the new album/single > I, on the other hand, was looking forward to the release in the fall 'cause > that's when I'd be in London for the semester which meant this poor American > fan could a) get the album at its initial release and b) possibly see them > live for the first time. > Er, I still want a Dels-fan get together with me while I'm there. :) Josh Your wish is our command. Any excuse for a booze up, eh Zoe? And the British contingient are competing for the Guinness Book of Records as to how many OV'ers we can meet. Andrew is winning at the moment though - having had the advantage of the OV Convention in Chicago, the two Block Parties in 1999 AND now meeting and living amngst all us Brits. So - by the time the new Dels album comes out it will be all but five years since the last one. I wonder how many other bands have such loyal fans as us!
