Whenever someone covers this song, I always have asked "WHY??????!!!!!!!!" It is SUCH a classic and before now I would have thought it was impossible to do it justice. But Del Amitri really came up with a great, tender, rendition. Who is singing here? I know that Justin's voice sounded different at the time, but this doesn't sound like their first album either. But it gives me the impression that they meant to do it so badly! The singing is so off-key it's crazy but the music is spot-on. As far as credible cover versions go I like: Hendrix: All along the watchtower (porbably the ONLY cover to be better than it's original) Silversun: Too Much Too Little Too Late they also did Xanadu by Rush (anyone who can cut a 12 minute song down to 4 and still capture most of the music is doing a fine job!) Dream Theater: Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple) Spock's Beard: Whole lotta love + Space Truckin' Transatlantic: Firth of Fifth That's off the top of my head Cheers Chris - --- Chuck Simmons wrote: > After receiving the mp3 for Brown Eyed Girl, I must > say that I am very > impressed with our favorite band, again. It sounds like all the half-baked student bands I have ever heard. Loads of energy and enthusiasm, and never mind hitting the right notes. And it is Justin singing (as far as I know). I'm sure the cover versions on the Tribute Album will be of a far higher quality :o) Hilary - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Quartly" To: Sent: 13 July 2001 17:20 Subject: Re: OV: mp3 brown eyed girl I'm not a huge fan of the original (I do like it though) but I think DA murdered it!
