But for some reason I just wasn't that bothered, in hindsight i'm disappointed that I didn't go. All I need is for the Dels to release anything, then next year finally Rush will release their first album in 6 years and Dream Theater will have a new album and tour as well. Yes, a mighty $3 purchase that has kept me smiling. Sweet! Doesn't take much to keep a Dels fan happy, does it?? Nice to see someone else has an eye for DA wherever they go... I received an e-mail this morning from CD Now and they mentioned David Gray......have I heard someone on the list mention him before? What's his music like? Oh, and with my latest New Music Monthly magazine the CD has this great song by a duo called the Cash Brothers (Andrew Cash? ring any bells?) Anyway, the song is Night Shift Guru and it's fabulous....I think many Dels fans would enjoy it. Kind of a folksy, country type song with great harmonies...... Cheers! Elizabeth p.s. Entitled Band of Strangers, his band will be made up of fans. The idea is to allow fans to experience a show from the band's perspective. After a short acoustic set from Neil and his regular touring band, he will front a band put together, on the day, of complete strangers. He said, "I wanted to put the cat among the pigeons, stand back, and see what happens." The short tour is at: a.. 8 August - SHEFFIELD Darnall Music Factory (0114 279 7997) b.. 9 August - LIVERPOOL The Picket (0151 708 5318) c.. 15 August - S. WALES - Porth Pop Factory (01443 680900) Fans and musicians who wish to participate are invited to send in tapes of themselves performing on their chosen instrument and a few lines outlining why they would like to be involved in these very special events to Band of Strangers, PO Box No. 14877, London NW1 6ZX. Tapes submitted should arrive by July 31. Participants must give their age, a daytime contact telephone number, their address and must specify which venue/day they can attend. They must be able to be at venue from 12.00 midday to 12.00 midnight. Tickets are priced #10 and will go on sale on Friday (13 July). They can be purchased by telephoning 0870 400 0688, online at http://www.buyupfront.com/ and http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/, and from the venues (numbers above). Jennifer A. He has been doing these shows in Australia and NZ for a while now, although somewhat on the quiet, and all those who I have spoken to who have seen or played have commented on what a buzz it has been for them... If you get the chance to see one of these...get along. It was totally spontaneous with no interviewing beforehand; Neil had no idea what he was getting with each new volunteer, but it worked out beautifully. People switched off doing a couple songs and then letting other fans have a chance--they played piano, guitar, bass, drums, did backing vocals (as one guy put it, "I get to be Tim tonight!"). It was wild and wonderful--one of the best concerts I've ever seen, although I spent the whole time wishing I knew how to play something. If you get a chance to see one of these shows, don't miss it! ~Lori ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lauren Royal ~ http://www.laurenroyal.com The Jewel trilogy: AMETHYST, EMERALD, and (just out!) Since we have been in a bit of an acoustic mode with this talk of Neil Finn I thought that some of you might be interested in having a listen to a friend of mine, Pete Murray. Pete has been doing the pub circuit of Brisbane and the East Coast of Australia for a few years and is about to release an EP in the next couple of months. For all you Aussies there is talk of an East Coast tour to support the release but technical difficulties have made the dates a little sketchy at this stage. I could fill you with my somewhat biased opinion but I'll leave the decisions up to all of you... You can find some more info and listen to a couple of Pete's tracks at http://www.brispop.com/artist.cfm?artistID=47 Although releasing the EP independently you can contact Pete or his management (Anna Campbell) via the links on the page should you want to hear more or find out how to get the CD. Enough nepotism for now... I think that David Gray is a little over-produced and loses some of that singer-songwriter style, and I don't really like his voice that much! Anyone else like Martyn Joseph, my biggest compliment I can give him is that I don't usually listen to that style of music but he drags me in somehow. If you like the acoustic Del tracks then you should like some MJ songs. Cheers Chris --- L Perry wrote: > Elizabeth, > > His music is great!
