Debbie's story of how she met the band members has finally motivated me to write and ask what I've been wondering since I joined this list three years ago: Those of you who seem to be well-acquainted with the band, how did it happen? And Alison and Kevin, how did the two of you gain the honor of mastering the official web sites? Welcome to all the new voices. We don't all always contribute, but everything is read with interest and it's nice to have some fresh enthusiasm in the neighborhood! I'm leaving on a road trip at noon and of course, all of my Dels discs are along. A few of the others are ELO, babybird, Simple Minds, Semisonic, Alison Moyet, the Doves. I was lucky enough to recieve their single from a local radio station recently and have found that I quite enjoy it. However, they get exactly zero radio-play in my area and I have not been able to locate their album in any local record stores. When I ask the clerks if they have a Doves CD they look at me like I have horns growing out of my head. Could you send along the name of their album and someplace that I might be able to get it? It would be greatly appreciated. Two more notes and I'll be done... Number one...yesterday I was working and a lady came in with a t-shirt on that said Scotland on it. I asked her if she had been there recently and she said "no, but my kids just got back from there". I told her that I was just wondering because my fav of all time band was from there. My co-worker Sean, who has exceptional taste in music (I'm currenly borrowing his Indigenous CD to burn it) said "Who, Travis" I told him no, but was blown away at the coincidence and told him promply that OV had been talking about them extensively lately. I've not heard of them until recently, but now that is all I hear. Just thought that I'd pass that along. Finally, I would also like to express my profound sadness at the passin gof John Lee Hooker. All I can say is that BB King and Eric Clapton had better live forever, because I will be a mess when they go. Thanks and have a lovely day!! Cheers Chris To completely get off on a tangent, for those of you who are in (or going to be in) the Milwaukee area, Semisonic is playing at Summerfest (a huge 11-day music festival where you pay a $9-10 entry fee and can then see a ton of different acts) on July 5th. Also playing that day are the Yell Leaders (a local band for whom Justin sang backup on a couple of tunes on their Cornelia Street cd). Also at Summerfest this year are Wilco (July 2nd) and the Jayhawks (July 7th). Too bad the dels won't be there. :-( Ann in Milwaukee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 13:06:06 -0400 From: "B M" Subject: Re: OV: how are you acquainted? I met Ian in the bathroom of the Paradise in Boston. While he was in there, he was singing Proud Mary at the top of his lungs so he was hard to miss. After we had both washed our hands I introduced myself to him and we had a long talk about the new album (Twisted) and his Orange amps. He couldn't have been nicer guy. I did literally bump in to Justin at an earlier show for Change Everything, but I didn't know who he was because he looked considerably more scruffy than he did on the CD. I thought he was a roadie at the time and was surprised to see him take the mic at the start of the show! LOL! Long story short: Alison and Caroline go to Del concert. Alison is the freak in the front requesting all the bsides while every other person there only knows 1 Del song or went because it was Slim's, which is a nice place to go to see people you've never heard of. Caroline is tired and wants to go home. Alison is obsessed and wants to meet band. Caroline goes up and uses her charm on a roadie, who then lets us back because the band thought that the chick in the front requesting the weird songs was funny. Alison and Dave talk for hours. Alison goes home and searches internet for Del-related stuff. There is none. Alison makes a mailing list and a web page. A&M see it and put it in album cover. Quinner calls Alison at parents' house from time to time in order to scare her. Personally, I think that the only reason the Dels put up with me is because I'm a weirdo who doesn't fit their demographic (had purple hair, has lip ring, etc., etc). ;) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com "If you want peace, work for justice." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 06:12:35 +1000 From: "Mark Fuller" Subject: OV: Delurking from minus 5 Armidale Australia Hi everybody, The images of England beamed into our homes here with the cricket caused me to wander off- Perfect day for Aussie male in UK. I just wish I lived close enough to a major city where the Dels would play -- out here all anyone listens to is country music. maybe, someday...... maureen bennett west virginia, USA ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V3 #151 **********************************
