They provide you with the necessary music publisher contact info. For the UK, it's the Performing Rights Society ( http://www.prs.co.uk/Home -020 7580 5544 ) and their affiliate the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society ( http://www.mcps.co.uk/Welcome ) - They're in the same building & at the same # - but don't seem to have a publicly-available database. Good luck - what do you want the song used in, if I may ask? Well, we (or at least I) are in luck. I know there are a few Cowboy Junkies fans on this list, scattered somewhere in the depths of lurkdom. For those of you unfamiliar with them, they were playing a style of music similar to alt.country long before that became the A&R industry's new buzzword, even before The Patty Duke Syndrome was an idea in David Ryan Adams' head (all respect to the man, however). Michael Timmins is a songwriter to rival the Currie/Harvie team, and hearing his sister Margo sing, I know that's the closest I'll ever come to hearing an angel. Their songs are achingly beautiful, deeply haunting, and have an edge of menace that would have made Jim Morrison jealous. I thought I was leaving behind their live shows when I left my native country, as it's a rare day that they tour beyond North America. But thankfully, that day's come. They're playing Shepherd's Bush Empire in London on October the 19th. If they sound like your cup of cold tea, I'll most likely be camped out in front of the Empire from about noon on the day-- come share an experience seconded only by the best Dels shows with me. For more info, see http://www.cowboyjunkies.com/ -Andrew PS: Those in the Chicago area, they're playing Ravinia this year-- my eyes are burning green. Also, those around Vienna, Virginia, they'll be at Wolf Trap, one of the best venues it's ever been my pleasure to see them in. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 09:10:47 -0500 From: "Jennifer Woyan" Subject: OV: Re: OT: Cowboy Junkies Yup - already have my tix for the Junkies' Ravinia appearance (outdoor amphitheatre in the John Hughes' suburbs of Chicago usually home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) but I'm also looking forward to seeing their support act, Jeb Loy Nichols - more country than alt, his vocals are smooth as molasses on an April morning and his songwriting is very much in the John Hiatt/Gram Parsons vein. In another Atlantic crossing, the Missouri native now makes his home in London and uses London touring/session musicians almost exclusively. And he knows former-Del Ashley...small world.... (http://www.jebloynichols.com/ ) Andrew - if you love Margo's vocals, take a gander at Shivaree's Ambrosia Parsley's (yes, that's her real name). Their debut, I Oughtta Give You a Shot in the Head for Making Me Live in this Dump, got pretty good UK press, but they're still strictly indie here in the States. http://hollywoodandvine.com/shivaree/ http://www.shivaree.btinternet.co.uk/index800.html (includes video concert footage) Good music for a good morning, eh?
