Yesterday they played Kiss This Thing Goodbye and today it was > Nothing Ever Happens. Could they be a Dels champion??? Virgin have always been big Dels fans - especially Russ Williams and Harriet Scott. They even booked them to play at their 1998 Christmas party, where Ms Scott (who is a known marriage breaker - ask Anne Diamond) made an unsuccessful drunken pass at Justin! She owned up to it the next day on air and apologised to Jane by saying "Sorry Mrs Del Amitri". They seem to play a Dels song on Virgin at least once every week, and use the "A One two three four" from KTTG in one of their advertising jingles (preceded by Layla - I love that station!) In fact, for a time, I couldn't listen in my car without them playing a Dels song. Certainly, if any radio station in the UK is going to play the new album, it will be Virgin - and you can listen to it on-line at http://www.virginradio.co.uk/ Jane ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 13:22:37 EDT From: NIGELBLUES@aol.com Subject: OV: Re: oppositeview-digest V3 #135 > Nigel. Children's TV and pop music show presenters ANT & DEC beat ROD STEWART'S VAGABONDS in the final of the 2001 SOCCER SIX football tournament in LONDON this afternoon (May 28). The pair, who present 'SMTV' and 'CD:UK', led a team which featured Lee Latchford-Evans from Steps, Robbie Williams' flatmate and solo singer in his own right Jonathan Wilkes and former England footballing hero Peter Beardsley to finally lift the victor's trophy, having been runners-up in last year's six-a-side competition. In a nail-biting final before thousands of people packed into the sun-baked stadium, Ant & Dec beat last year's winners, Rod Stewart's Vagabonds, 5-3. Rod's team featured former Take That star Mark Owen and Del Amitri frontman Justin Currie. Held at Stamford Bridge, home to London's glamour Premier League team Chelsea, the event is staged yearly to raise money for the charity Help A London Child. Other stars at the event included Goldie, DJ Spoony, Robert Del Naja from Massive Attack, former footballers Chris Waddle and Ian Rush, Another Level's Dane Bowers, former Prodigy star Leeroy Thornhill, Spice Girl Emma Bunton, who was there to cheer along boyfriend Jade Jones from Damage, who headed up a side, and soccer legend George Best, who was there to hand out the winners' medals and trophies. Five also had a team at the event, as did Blur's Damon Albarn, Toploader, Reef, Terrorvision, Simply Red and Artful Dodger. Fat Les were also represented by a team at the event, but frontman Keith Allen failed to show after his flight back from a trip to the US was delayed. The girls' tournament featured a host of popstars, models and TV presenters, including Steps' Faye Tozer, Gail Porter, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and 'CD:UK'/'SMTV' presenter Cat Deeley. The ladies' tournament winners were Six Chicks, which featured former Page 3 stunner Jordan. Top scorer at the event was Jonathan Wilkes, who scored a staggering 12 goals over the course of the afternoon - then revealed he'd player for Everton in his younger years. Jennifer A. Just lucky Russell took over driving the last leg! Heck I need to get into training should there be another tour - insane amounts of driving and queuing in the cold (as the Dels only ever seem to tour in the winter) and fitting loads of people into our tiny house. And hearing Evidence was definitely a highlight of the whole tour for me! On par with Sleep Instead of Teardrops at the Royal Albert Hall.
