As a fan of progressive rock music I would deem Radiohead progressive in the truest sense (they always change there sound and embrace technology, etc). But if Kid A was the Blair Witch project then Amnesiac is Blair Witch 2: Book of shadows, just as bad. There are a couple of OK songs but nothing that would make the first three albums. More Rush content (I know i ALWAYS mention these guys) they have 7 finished demos for a new album! It is supposed to be real heavy! Wow! Being supported by Supergrass and an acoustic set by Beck, along with loads of local Oxford bands. I saw them after the release of Kid A and some of the new songs actually work well alongside the more 'Traditional' style songs. A successful album means they can take 4 years off before they need to work again to pay off their tabs, another Not Where It's At means they go back to work within a year. I wouldn't use the word "competitive" around them, they truly seem to be slackers at heart. And I'd have to say that the largest impediment to touring America is that they are all in relationships now (well longer terms ones ha) and the need to need to meet exotic American female DJs isn't quite as there as it has been in the past. Notice Andrew Douglas is quite happy not touring America these days? Let it be known that Andrew Douglas is not in a long term relationship at the moment(nor any relationship). Scarily most of the women I meet (and yes i meet women now, not girls) are going touring to far off countries, the most popular being Australia. For the life of me i don't know why that is. When I was in a "rock" band, we decided that it was better to live the life of rockstars rather than actually be competitve and try to achieve stardom. We liked to tell chicks we were "in the band", we drank beer and we played loud music badly. Incidently, the line "I'm in the band" is closely followed by "By day I'm a teacher, but by night I'm a superhero" as the number one pulling line. Let's face it, unless your artsy fartsy Radiohead (sorry Jim) bands, a little bit like girls, just wanna have fun. Hence the need for a record company, manager, tour manager, roadie etc... andrew P.S. You should hear my touring stories from NYC, 1st Jan 2000. "....I was sitting by the edge of the bar when the barman man comes up to me and says ...." P.P.S. If your ever in NYC you gotta go to Hoggs & Heifer's. It's the dodgiest dive bar in town, but it's also the bar that was in Coyote Ugly;) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-oppositeview@smoe.org [mailto:owner-oppositeview@smoe.org]On Behalf Of doug brown Sent: 23 May 2001 17:51 To: oppositeview@smoe.org Subject: OV: Chicks, Beer, Rock and Roll - How Bands Really Think And I'd have to say that the largest impediment to touring America is that they are all in relationships now (well longer terms ones ha) and the need to need to meet exotic American female DJs isn't quite as there as it has been in the past.
