Am I the only one on this list who is NOT practically on a first-name-basis with some major musician??? And being with Elvis Costello.......I know he is a "real person," but I just can't picture him out.......where normal people can tak to him. moe, WV, USA ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 May 2001 12:03:59 -0400 From: "Leigh Brown" Subject: OV: OT - Coldplay Hi everyone Sorry about non-Dels stuff, but we gotta talk about something ! Didn't mind them the first 2000 times I heard them, but that 2001st time just pushed me over the edge. I even tried listening to 'Christian' radio stations when I'm driving around, hoping to hear something different but they play some of the most bland easy-listening mush I've ever heard. Hardly a dcTalk or Skillet track to be heard! Sheesh. Back to the faithful tape player I guess where I can blast out Dels b's to my hearts content... > Where is that other well known and well loved Glaswegian band??? Well they > did play Roll To Me in the background in Eastenders...... Publix still plays the occasional RTM or What I Think She Sees... Tell you one thing, the only thing I'm looking forward to more than my June painting trip to France is new Dels in August. Hey, will I be able to find any DA in Paris music stores? How do you say Some Other Suckers Parade in French? LOL! > PS In case anyone is concerned, my son Alex fell from a climbing frame on > Monday when we were away - typically - and broke his wrist. Sorry to hear dear Alex got hurt and hope he'll be ok soon. What are the docs saying, about 6 weeks in the cast? Took him to hospital Wednesday-waited two hours, and they x-rayed him and the nurse said it was OK. Then got a phone call a day later to say it was broken and could we go in on Friday and sit around for another two hours waiting to get it plastered. Then today some little s**t (he didn't see who did it as they scarpered pretty quickly) decided to push Alex into the local lake. Plastercast looked like a prop from a horror film, all covered in slime and pondweed, cuts and scrapes all over his body-slime dripping from his clothes. ........And to top it all off Doug Adams has died. So long and thanks for all the fish. And to that Jane, I'd like to add: Always remember to carry a towel!!!!!!!!!!! I also was very saddened by Doug's death-it would appear another instance of "only the good die young". Bummer. I only have good intentions and am therefore just really sick alot. Carrying a towel actually changed my life (seriously). Freshman year, first week of class and I was the only one to actually read the memo and take it seriously about carrying a towel to the campus fire drill. So here I come parading out onto the quad , white emblem of preparedness in hand and halo slightly askew, only to realize my geeky mistake too late. And end up meeting some of the best friends of my life because of it. I have never lived it down. Okay- Dels tie-in: I think one of the reasons I like their quirky, twisted style so much is that I've always liked to read the quirky, twisted yet infinitely wise authors like Doug Adams, Vonnegut,Robbins,Percy, Shakespeare and others - instead of what's expected ie:"the classics". Cheers, and being in the medical field I can totally relate to the crap you were going through last week-it's a nightmare. Rosemary PS Thanks for the web address info on Eileen Rose' CD. Apparently I'd hadn't tried the right one. Although I must confess to still liking to shop in person. It's the 'high touch' concept, I think. There's something to being able to walk or bike to get all your basic needs met, I think. How do the rest of OV'ers feel about this? Has being able to order music online changed the amount of music you buy in stores? In my case , it's just increased my total consumption-only the hard to find stuff gets purchased online while I still satisfy the majority of my music Jones, either new or used, at my neighborhood record stores. I'm interested to see if this is true of anyone else on the list. - --- Rosemary Lucas - --- prudencetofu@earthlink.net - --- EarthLink: It's your Internet. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 09:23:53 +0100 From: Hopping James W Subject: OV: RE: OT - Coldplay Parachutes is the extent of it in album terms so far. There are probably a few EP type efforts about but I guess they would be pretty rare and possibly even rarer in the states.
