I've enjoyed Del Amtri's music for many years (almost since the first) and I was glad to discover this group. I must say that the level of discourse here seems to be way more informed and interesting than you get with some other groups. If fact why am I sitting in my office at 7.00am Sunday morning? Anxiously waiting for the new album. Libby's paranoia about SCS in infectious- I don't mind the song but cringe at the "time rhyme". OK the solution is that OV through the wonderful consensus that exists come up with a replacement. 'and its such a crime" "how about another lime" "these lyrics are quite sublime" "that drink isn't mine" "I'm starting to pine" "do you come here often Kevin Kline?" I know we've thrashed this out many a time before - but it gets my goat. This week every single time I've turned on the radio I've heard Travis - songs old or new. I've spent three evenings in casualty with my clumsy son and the radio there has played Travis each time. Every time I've been in the car... Travis. Saw them in Dublin on Monday , and they're doing pre-album release gigs in London and Glasgow in June (album out on 11 June). All the main British music websites have had "The Making Of The Sing Video" media clips. Their website has been bombarding me with mails and free tickets to Dublin. They are also appearing at several of the major Summer Festivals, and are taking part in the BBC Festival of Music at the end of May. They are on the front cover of June's Q magazine and on eight!!!! full pages inside. Where is that other well known and well loved Glaswegian band??? Well they did play Roll To Me in the background in Eastenders...... Jane PS In case anyone is concerned, my son Alex fell from a climbing frame on Monday when we were away - typically - and broke his wrist. Took him to hospital Wednesday- waited two hours, and they x-rayed him and the nurse said it was OK. Then got a phone call a day later to say it was broken and could we go in on Friday and sit around for another two hours waiting to get it plastered. Then today some little s**t (he didn't see who did it as they scarpered pretty quickly) decided to push Alex into the local lake. Plastercast looked like a prop from a horror film, all covered in slime and pondweed, cuts and scrapes all over his body - slime dripping from his clothes. So it was off to casualty for another two hours to get him replastered again.... which meant I missed a charity gig blues gig my friends were in. Hey ho!! And to top it all Douglas Adams has died. I did like him. And at 49 only 5 years older than me. So long and thanks for all the fish...... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 May 2001 10:24:25 +1000 From: "Cheree Garrick" Subject: OV: Re:Stone Cold Sober Can't say SCS is one of my fave songs either but whenever I hear it it brings a smile to my face as a friend of mine used to always sing the verse to make me laugh. Greg used to say he thought it was their worst song but when he saw them play it live he let out a great cheer then rolled his eyes. From that day on we all decided that was Greg's song. Less than a year later Greg decided to end his life as he couldn't face the fact that at the age of 20 he discovered he had been adopted. I put a copy of the 7" in his casket so he could play it forever. Funny thing is whenever I play the song I hear Greg singing along, even after almost 10 years and on the anniversary of his death a couple of years ago my best friend heard the song on the local radio late at night and it was back announced saying that was for Greg who'd rung up requesting it. She had to stop the car as it freaked her a bit. Back to my cave.....happy mum's day mum! True Jane but I notice we're getting "American" in the UK by giving airplay to new singles a few weeks before release. Bottom line is, singles just don't sell anymore so companies get them airplay/recognition in the hope everyone buys in the week of release to get it a lofty chart position ... before it disappears out of sight the next week! And hey presto - album release!!
