He was a 40-something prat trying to pull the 20 year old women, wearing a terrible red jacket and yellow t-shirt, and had a rather strange beard. He had one speaking line - asking if the cocaine had been lined up. He was played by none other than Dave Cummings. Don't give up the day job David!! Elliott Smith Fans Make Tribute I commend Elliott Smith fans for taking it upon themselves to organize their own fan-made tribute album dedicated to their songwriting hero. Tracks were recorded and submitted by Smith fans all over the world, including the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Norway, and Switzerland. These fans came together via the Smith discussion group (www.sweetaddy.com) and a nifty unofficial fan site, www.sweetadeline.net. Tracks were exchanged via the Internet as well as through the postal system - aka the old fashioned way. Only a small number of copies of the album were pressed, and if you are like me, you probably didn't get one. But if you'd like one, I recommend visiting one of the above sites. In related Smith news, Elliott is set to appear in a film, Southlander, directed by frequent Beck video director Steve Hanft. The film traces the journey of a man, "Chance" (played by Rory Cochrane), in search of a synthesizer. "Chance" runs into aged versions of some pretty interesting characters along his journey, including Elliott, Beth Orton, Beck, Hank Williams III, Ross Harris (Sukia, DJ Me DJ You), and Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington from Welcome Back Kotter. There is no official release date yet for the film. I cannot wait. In the meantime, according to a posting from Elliott himself last month on his official website (www.elliottsmith.net): "Just wanted to let folks know i'm healthy, clean and sober and working on the next record. I've heard there's some rumors flying around to the contrary and would like to reassure anyone concerned about it. Thanks, Elliott." Here is the tracklisting for the Elliott Smith fan tribute album: "No Name #1" "Last Call" "Some (rock) Song "Christian Brothers" "White Lady Loves You More" "The Biggest Lie" "Between The Bars" "Rose Parade" "Angeles" "Baby Britain" "Pitseleh" "Everybody Cares Everybody Understands" "I Didn't Understand" "Everything Reminds Me Of Her" "Wouldn't Mama Be Proud" "Pretty (Ugly Before)" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2001 15:01:15 US/Central From: Jen Woyan Subject: OV: Hey! I knew you'd like them - though it's definitely a Danish TV piece and not Dutch as they advertised. I've watched mine about four times - and that Danish interview makes me go all hot under the collar!!! Jane > Just wait until you get to the Dutch TV piece.
