Noone even has a problem of "taping" other peoples CDs > anymore, do they? what is the big deal?? I'm ready to let this thread die after one _last_ comment: There are a couple of problem with taping LP's vs. downloading MP3's: 1. no one has a friend with a catalog like Napster. Before the filtering began, you could find almost anything there. 2. the quality of a taped LP wasn't that great. Now some will argue that MP3's sound crappy, but a 192 encoded track is good enough for about 99% of the audience out there. The reason things like taping an LP and using two VCR's to copy a movie came about was because the defendents proved that no one is going to run copies in such mass quantity that it will affect LP and Video sales. Napster on the other hand is different, I think people buy less CD's. Hell, I do! I used to buy albums and get pissed off at how shitty they were because the 30 second sample on the web sounded okay! Now I can listen to the records and pick and choose the ones that I buy and I'm always pleased with what I get. I _never_ burn a CD with the MP3's that I get from the Internet unless it's a promo album (like Orbital) that won't come out for another month or a bootleg. And I go to a lot more concerts and buy the CD's there because they are usually cheaper. later, ajay - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Satyajot (Ajay) Sharma ssharma@odc.net Digital Odyssey System Administrator Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. - ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 23:32:01 +0100 From: "Hilary Gray" Subject: OV: Quote Hi all, Just checking out Eileen Rose's site at her record company at http://www.tugboatrecords.com/index.html?eileenrose.html and reading some reviews from her Borderline appearances with Mark, Kris and Iain, when I came across this rather amusing quote: "She introduces her band and it transpires that two of them used to play with Del Amitri. Oh dear. Their services are employed well here though, and it has to be said that she's a lot easier on the eyes than that clown with the giant sideburns. " Oh well, at least the next review is a lot more accurate, if a little biased :o) Hilary ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V3 #88 *********************************
