Been following and listening to the Dels since stumbling across "Waking Hours" in 1990. No great stories, except that I was very glad to have caught them in Vancouver's, now defunct, but great live band bar "The Town Pump" in 1995. And my only cool story is meeting Andy Alston's cousin a few years back. While hiking Vancouver Islands' West Coast Trail in 99', I bumped into a Scottish girl, we got to talking, then I mentioned that "two of my favorite bands were Del Amitri and Texas, had she seen them live?". Her answer completely caught me by surprise, when she answered that the Dels were her cousins band, and that he was the keyboardist! She seemed equally surprised when a Canadian far from Scotland quickly replied "Your cousin is Andy Alston?" We had a pretty good laugh over that. To address the occasional question of "What does Del Amitri mean to you?" - Being somewhat of a "fool in love" at times, Justin's lyrics can really hit home for me, and have helped me through some tough times. Just as one finds out whose real friends are when times are tough, music fans, such as myself, find out who your bands are when times are tough. Having recently had my heart broken (squished actually, but I'm not looking for pity), the first thing I turned to for comfort (besides a little gin) was "Change Everything". Songs like "Just Like A Man", "I Won't Take The Blame", "The First Rule Of Love","To Last A lifetime" and "Behind The Fool" really do sum things up perfectly in the messy game of love. And why "Spit in the Rain" wasn't on that album I'll never know, but it really fits the tone perfectly. Del Amitri, besides putting out great music, seem to have that ability to translate matters of the heart to music perfectly, without making it seem sappy. They are and probably will remain the one band that I can count on being their for me when I need them. Not to dwell, and on a happier note I can only hope the new album is finished and out soon, and they tour North America this time (any news on that front?). Guess it's time to go back to lurking, just thought I'd see if there was any others interested answering "What does Del Amitri mean to you?" Mike (one-time nice guy, but hate finishing last and thinking of becoming a bastard) > _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V3 #55 *********************************
