That's not really the key issue at the moment. The Australian dollar is very weak so Australian promoters have to pay bucketloads to make it attractive to international performers. The current trend is to secure "safe bets" for touring here. Sad but true. Having said that, I must admit we've just had Richard Thompson out here, Bob Dylan is due in March and there are rumours John Hiatt will be opening for Emmylou Harris when she comes out in March (*that* would be one helluvva show). > At least YOU get the new Neil Finn record in a few weeks. Ron Sexmith is a fellow Canadian, and very talented at that. I have to admit that over the last few years, radio hasn't picked up at all on his music. It's really a shame, but I get the feeling that he likes it that way. He has a small and loyal following and he caters only to his own musical desires. He DID make tha album with Steve Earle, and I think he lost distribution. I saw an interview with him not too long ago on MuchMusic. It was interesting from an East Coast perspective (Canadians living in the Maritimes on the east coast are only recently getting the attention they very RICHLY deserve!) and he seemed bummed about the album NOT being relaeased because he was actually glad he got it made. The relationship started out between Earle and Sexmith as mentor-student, but I think Ron Sexmith actually tried to get Steve Earle to record songs written specifically for him. The god's honest truth is that since Copperhead Road, Steve Earle has been sort of a non-entity. I've seen the odd video, but I can't remember him touring here or doing promotional appearances. I think that this is another musician who had decided the entire North American music business is bollocks, and I for one am truly starting to agree. I really struggle with this - the album I like least is SOSP, but I have to admit I don't get on with the associated b-sides either. I find them.... dull. Lyrically some of them are beautiful, but if the music doesn't hook me in, then the lyrics become irrelevant. Twisted is the perfect album with just the right balance of songs, where even Roll To Me has a place - I wouldn't change one song on there. I'd turn all the Waking Hours b-sides into an album in their own right, adding Fred Partington's Daughter, which I think was recorded around the same time. So as I don't know all of the 'del amitri' album b-sides, I'd have to go with Change Everything, and substitute Whiskey Remorse for When You Were Young, and Long Journey Home for Surface of The Moon. In reference to his departure from Interscope he said, "It was either me or Eminem, and I said 'Heck he's got a bright future let HIM stay!' and so they dropped me." Steve has been touring with the Dukes as of late, promoting his latest album (on his own E-squared label). Iain does seem a little bored in his posts. Quite a lot of references to computers and technical problems. I'm intrigued by their choice of Commissioner Gordon, not the obvious choice that's for sure. I just hope that they eventually release versions of "Drowned On Dry Land" and "Everyone Knows It's You" in some form (album tracks or b-sides). I have to disagree. I love Twisted, but Waking Hours is my favourite. If I had to make a CD out of everything we already have, this is what I'd use (based on 12 tracks). . . Kiss This Thing Goodbye Just Like a Man The Ones That You Love Lead You Nowhere To Last A Lifetime Roll To Me Cry To be Found Opposite View Hatful of Rain Stone Cold Sober Driving With the Brakes On Medicine When I Want You I also am not super familiar with all the b-sides, although I've heard most of them. I just like to hear the timbre in Justin's voice. For some reason, he seems to me to be the voice of an angel. Granted, the angel has had a few dozen bottles of whiskey and smoked a boat load of cigarettes and fallen from a few clouds in his time, but he is truly the voice of a generation, and one that I could listen to until the end of time itself.
